#HARD DISK ICON…GORN!

A friend of mine is using WB1.3 on an A500 (with a GVP Combo).
He copied (using CLI) SysInfo to his hard disk but the action
replaced his hard disk icon with (he presumes) SysInfo's floppy icon.
The icon is still labelled as a hard disk but he wants his hard disk
icon back. Can this be done or has the icon been overwritten? BTW,
how did he do it? He hasn't got a clue.

On each disk will be an icon called Disk.info. It is the Disk's icon. Yes,
It is easy to overwrite this file if your not careful during multiple
copying of files, for instance, using wildcards in the argument string.
Copy df1:#? dh0: will copy all files from df1: to the hard drive dh0:
and overwrite the Disk.info file.
If he has a backup of the hard drive, then he can find the Disk.info
file for his icon on it. If not, then it is gone. Usually, it is good
practice to keep a copy of special Disk.info icons named something else
like Ram-Disk.info, or SpecialDH0Disk.info. These won't show up in the
Workbench cause they are disk icons not project or tool icons. You could
change them to a Project icon so you can see them in a directory and later
change them back to a disk icon.
I have a Ram-Disk icon I keep in the S: directory called Ram_Disk.info
and in my user-startup a line that reads.
Copy S:Ram_Disk.info Ram:Disk.info, so I can have my special ram chip icon
with the lightning bolt on the alternate image when I click it open.

One more question. How do you change the disk icon to a project
icon so you can see it?

Which version of the operating system are you using? In version 2.0 the
IconEdit editor will let you select type type of icon from a menu item. If
your using 1.3 I believe you'll have to find an utility here in our
libraries to do it.
I believe either IE2.LZH or IEdito.LHA in Library 11 will do it.
