#HP & WordSync Probs!
6 messages in this thread
Hi, Keith. This is Lilliane M. Carter – Supra's new Tech Rep. Clark is no
longer with us and I will be the one on here from now on. Nice to meet
you!
In response to your question your friend might have older PALs or autoboot
Rom. Might want to leave an address or have him give me a call at Supra and
I'll sendhim the latest stuff…BTW – 1.10 is the latest although it
is not official yet…

Lilliane,
Welcome to CIS, hopefully you'll come to love this gang here, we're alright
really! Thanks for the information. I'll pass it along to him and he can
give you folks a call and see if the PALs or ROMs need to be upgraded.
Since he bought it mail order you never really feel confident that you know
exactly what you're getting. I know they try but sometimes things slip
through. I'm sure he'll be calling early this coming week. Good to know
he did get the latest software though, he was releived to hear that.
Will keep you posted and of course if he has other questions I'll be the
one posting here. He refuses to buy a modem, course after I see my VISA
bill I can understand why! 🙂

Lilliane:
First off, Welcome to CIS. I have a Supra Wordsync with an ST157N drive
that's out of an external SupraDrive (for A500) that was on my A500, and
now mounted on the second drive bay rather than the Supra card, as it
wouldn't fit on for some reason. Well, now I'm thinking of upgrading to a
Quantum 105 meg drive, and was wondering 2 things. 1. Will the Quantum
drive fit onto the Wordsync card (with the metal guides) so that I can keep
the ST157N right where it is for use on the Bridgeboard. 2. Is Supra going
to come out with a 150 meg tape unit (or at least 100 meg) soon, as I don't
really feel like backing up 100 megs to floppies, a tape backup is a very
needed thing. I like the Supra Wordsync, but might have to trade it in on
a GVP board because they do have a tape backup already. Please let me
know, as I'll be making this decision fairly soon.

Thanks for the welcome. Yes, you most certainly can mount the Quantum 105
on you WS, no prob's there. The WS is designed to take any 3 1/2 inch
drives… We are planning to come out with a tape unit but when is the big
question. It will be relativly soon I'm sure but no definate date for you
yet…I'll let ya know though…floppies can be a big pain, that is why I
use the Syquest. It's fast too…
You obviously missed what I said. The WS card that I have DIDN'T take
my ST157N (the holes wouldn't line up) when I tried to mount it on the
card. I can't see having a HD as a backup to another HD, and besides, at
44meg, I'd need 3 different cartridges just to backup the internal drive!
I suggest you take a look at the prices on the 100+ MB tape units and then
at the Syquest. You might be surprised.
