Thanks, Lou. I suspected that it was a dream of theirs, but promised to
ask.
It really was a GREAT magazine. Lots of us wish it were still around.

So what's this announcement for "Digital Video" that I got in the mail?
We are testing a new name for Desktop Video World, and have been all year in
less visible ways. The subscription offer for Digital Video went to a
percentage of the (large) mailing that went out this week. In addition, the
cover of the current issue in four states says Digital Video instead of Desktop
Video World. Every other aspect of the magazine is the same. This is of course
a very serious test of a potential name change, but it does not indicate any
editorial change. We will continue to improve the magazine of course.
We have been considering this all year, but no decision has yet been made.

Well, your field testing of the new name caused me to pass right over
the magazine on the rack. I went into Fry's Electronics yesterday specifically
to look for the latest DVW and couldn't find one. I did notice yet another new
Video magazine in the pack but didn't bother to look inside it. (Even though
the style of the cover made me think of DVW.)
I suppose I'll just have to make another trip…

Lou, Just for the record, IMHO, Desktop Video World is a great name! It would
be a shame to seem to have to start all over as DTVW already has alot of
goodwill and respect in the industry. Although the content would not change, it
may be percieved as new by users and advertisers alike. In addition, WHY?? Just
askin.

Basically, the Chairman of IDG likes Digital Video and asked us to test it. To
circulations surprise, the name does better with subscribers then DTVW. That
isn't enough to warrent the change, so we are testing it on the newsstand…
BTW – don't read anything into it besides a circulation test. DTVW is going to
continue to bring the same – only better – editorial you have come to expect.
