#1000 memory expansion

I own a 512K 1000, and I'm thinking of upgrading the memory (to 1 MEG,
probably). How do most of the expansion kits install? Are they internal,
or do they plug into the side? Also, what price can I expect to pay, and
what company seems to make the best?

We make the Insider II memory expansion board for the A1000 computer. It
plugs in internally to the machine and can add up to 1-1/2 meg of memory in
1/2 meg increments. The board also includes a real time clock, so that you
don't have to set the date and time every time you reboot.
The Insider II is available from most dealers, but if you can't find one
locally, give me a ring at (313) 685-2383, and I'll give you the name and
numbers of dealers you can aquire it from.
Our suggested retail price is $249.95 0K, talk to your dealer for his
pricing and memory prices.

About the Insider II board: Does it plug in, or is there soldering and
other gory electrical stuff to do? Also, is this zero wait state RAM, and
what type of RAM chips does it use (memory size & speed)?

The Insider II does not require any soldering, it just plugs in with two
jumper wires to connect. There is a 20+ page manual that describes step by
step how to install the board. The memory is true FAST ram, with the only
wait states caused by refresh collision. (very few) It uses 256Kx4 DRAMS of
any speed you can get. It'll work with 150ns chips, but they don't make the
256Kx4's that slow. A bank of 512K requires 4 chips, 12 to fully populate
to 1-1/2 meg.

On the Insider II, I haven't seen any place that sells them yet. Could you
give me the names & numbers of some mail order companies that stock the
board? Thanks.
I will give Dean a boost and say that I feel that the Insider II is perhaps
the best internal RAM expansion for the A1000 that I've seen. -Greg
