Title : Program to speed printing on an HP Deskjet printer
Keywords: HP DESKJET PRINT FAST PAGESTREAM PIPE GRAPHICS JKM
This program by Charles Tyson speeds up the printing of Graphic pages
on the HP Deskjet printer. It compresses the files sent to the printer
eliminating the vertical white spaces that can take up a lot of bytes
sent to the printer and eliminates the delay such blank lines take
while printing. Works transparently with PageStream by use of the pipe
device. The speedup can be remarkable.
Steve,
re: FASTDJ.LZH, I assume it will only work with Pagestream? Not with
PPage? If so, that's pretty disappointing!

Saul,
I use PageStream and not PPage, but FastDJ may well work with it. If
PPage can redirect the printer output to disk, you can use it. FastDJ
works on the HP print file itself in two ways. You can save to disk the
output file and then print at your convenience through FastDJ OR (and this
is real nice) you can "print" it to a PIPE device which will be read,
filtered and printed by FastDJ in real time. FastDJ is NOT program
dependent, but it does need to get at the output file before it is sent to
the Deskjet. I've even used it on screendumps using CMD.
hmmmmm….. Come to think of it, you could use CMD with the PPage output
even if PPage doesn't support "print to disk". One warning…If you don't
use the pipe device option, make sure you have plenty of disk space as a
single page could be in the range of 300-400K.
Hope this helps…….Jim Marias (75436,126)
