#3000's… when?
5 messages in this thread
My local dealer seems to be confused as to how nice the 3000 is, and he has
no information on it. Is this true of all dealers?
When will the machine be available for sale? How much will the 3000 @ 25mhz
& 40MB HD cost at an educational price?
My dealer insist the 2500 is a better machine, is this true?
I am quite positive I will be buying one as soon as possible, but my dealer
is telling me it will be september or so until they are released! Why
would Commodore be so cruel as to get our mouths watering over such a nice
machine and then make us wait so long! Any information on the 3000 that
hasnt been published by AmigaWorld or the Resource would also be
appriciated.
-Thanks
Michael,
It all depends on what you want to do. For example, if you need to
have MS-DOS compatability (via a BridgeBoard) and needed to add several
MS-DOS cards to the Bridge's capability…then your dealer is quite
correct.
If you don't need that, but need the capabilities of the 3000
(speed, built in "extras", etc.) and the low profile…then the 3000 is the
better machine.
The 3000 is due to be released in July.
Don
Michael,
There is a file in library 3 that gives the educational pricing on the
A3000. The machines are to be shipped starting in July. 2.0 kits for the
2×00 machines are to be released in September.
If your local dealer is an authorized Commodore dealer, he will have been
given lots of information on the 3000, along with an opportunityh to get a
demo version for his store. Do you have access to a different dealer?

No, there is no other dealers near me. The dealer I have to deal with
is… well, lets just say they give dealer a "bad name." This is the same
dealer that told me straight out that the Amiga would not be a wise choice
for business use. Not to mention the prices they charge! Another thing,
they do not consider you a customer if you did not purchase your amiga
there. I mean, an Amiga is an Amiga right… it's a COMMODORE dealer…
right!
My question about the 2.0 release, now, is, how much work, and how much
cost to get the 2.0 upgrade? How much for that new multisync video port?
This is just if I got the 2500, how much added to the cost are we talking
to get the new chips and features into it? Also, how much faster will the
32-bit busses increase speed on the 3000 compared to the 2500?
I am very much sold on the 3000, but if I am going to spend that kind of
money I want to make the right investment.
Thanks for replying so soon! -Michael
Michael,
I doubt that anyone can answer all those questions for you yet. The
chipset for the 2500 has not been released, and prices have not been
announced. Any prices anyone quoted you would just be guesses.
If you are really unhappy with your dealer, the place to post questions
about that is in CBMSER. There, you will be talking directly to a
representative from Commodore, and such complaints are properly handled
there.
The 2.0 release will not be available until September, and no one is really
sure just what all will be necessary. I know that 2.0 can be run without a
hard disk, without a multisync, without even putting in the chipset. You
won't get every feature if you don't have those things, but you can run it.
But the cost of the chips is something no one knows yet. Sorry we can't
help, but the information is just not available.
