#Using PC image on Amiga

I am trying to use a scanned logo which was captured with a pc scanner
and which works fine in the MS-DOS version of WordPerfect 5.1. I have tried
converting it into an Amiga graphic by using awrite with and without the /b
switch. But PageStream won't load it. Is what I am attempting possible?

If it was an image running on WP 5.1 then it's a .wpg file. As far as I am
given to understand it that is a unique image to just WP and will not
import over at this time. It's possible that someone might write an amiga
interpeter for it but as far as I know no such one exists now.
You must convert an MS-DOS graphic to IFF. Inset Systems' Hijaak is an
MS-DOS program that'll do that, and Interactive Circuits' have an
image-exchanging package for AmigaDOS. You could do it inexpensively by
converting the MS-DOS graphic to GIF and then the GIF graphic to IFF using
freely-redistributable utilities.

Depending on how muc resolution loss you could tolerate, you could
display it full screen in your PC window (I assume you're using a bridge
board since you mentioned awrite), and use an Amiga screen-capture program
to convert it to ann IFF file. there should be some useful capture
programs in the graphics utilities section of the Amigaarts library.
Other than that, if you can export it as a .gif file, or even an
.img file (if you're using Pagestream on the Amiga), you can also use the
graphic.

You've got me. You may be able to ask one of the WordPerfect
people here (Betty Clay is a name that comes to mind), or in the Word
Perfect sig. I'm still working with WP 4.1 for the Amiga.
I believe WP only exports .wpg graphics, but don't quote me on that

That seems to be my problem. The person that scanned a logo I need set it
up as a .wpg and I haven't been able to find a PD program to convert it
into an .IFF file. I found a utility that converts most other graphics, but
it doesn't handle .wpg's. It's called IConvert. I tried scanning the Word
Perfect sig libs, but got lost. Maybe I'll try setting up Whap! for WP, and
maybe I can do a little better. Thanks for the help, nonetheless.

The MSDOS world has a bunch of bitmap formats. You need to convert that
bitmap to an IFF bitmap. It is probably a TIFF (there seem to be two basic
kinds -raw and compressed), or it might be a pcx file.
Either way, there is a program called HIJAAK which runs on PCs. It's
commerical and costs about $100. It will convert most IBM style formats to
IFF formats (they call it LBM, but its the same thing as IFF).
An alternative is to look in the GRAPHICS SUPPORT forum (GO PIX) and find a
conversion tool which will make your MSDOS file into a GIF, transfer to the
AMIGA and turn it from a GIF to an IFF using one of the AmigaArts lib's GIF
converters.

I currently use a hand scanner on my XT BridgeBoard to create clipart which
I use in PageStream. I save the scanned image as a .IMG file on a 3-1/2"
drive on the BB, then using CrossDOS on the Amiga side, I import the
scanned image directly into PageStream. Before CrossDOS, I used AWRITE with
the binary switch set to move the scanned file onto the Amiga side. The
advantage of the CrossDOS method is that I can have the scanner software up
and running as I do my paste-up and when I need an additional piece of
clipart I can scan it and get it to the Amiga without starting and stopping
the scanning software.
