Folks:
Anyone get the E! network? It's a cable channel that deals with
TV/Film/Video happenings. Alot of fluff, although the new Howard Stern
Interview show is real funny.
Anyway, this past week they had a Behind The Scenes look at "Babylon 5"
They interviewed Ron Thorton and he gave a quick run down as to what
they're doing in the effects/gfx dept. He didn't mention the toaster
directly, but you could definitely see them in action.
They stated that the show is the flagship series for a new channel? They
mentioned Warner Bros. being behind the whole thing, but that this new
network will be a consortium of independant TV Stations around the country
banding together.
It looks like the show (regardless of the toaster presence) could be a hit.

Take a look at the latest issue of "Cinefanastique"…it's got quite a
spread on Babylon 5, and even talks about the Toaster and the Amiga!

Miguel,last night on the Sci Fi Channel they showed MORE Babylon 5
material on a show called Sci Fi Buzz,and before THAT came on there was a
show called Mystery's from Beyond the other Dimension which had all
Toaster FX and at the end of the show in Big Bold letters said thanx to
NewTek and CBM

I'll watch for that Sunday when I watch Sci Fi Buzz again.Didn't notice a

There are several good article out these days regarding Bab5. Look for a
Starlog extra. It has extensive Toaster coverage and a great interview with
Ron Thornton. The article was written by Adam" MOJO " Liebowitz who used to
work for Ron, and for NewTek.

So, what is the truth behind these rumours you guys are NOT shipping
Toasters for the next 2 months? (Sounds pretty unbelievable to me!)
And, . . . when are you guys going to release LightWave 3.0/Pro. (Your
sales # won't tell me more than 'call back in January'. [I can't wait!
{stamp, snivel, whimper!}])

As far as I know, ( like watching the boxes getting loaded into the
trucks…) we are still shipping Toasters. New Lightwave is going to
ship "as soon as it's done…" That is the official answer. All I can
tell you is that each time I see a new version, it is vastly superior
to the previous. So,,, I know it's hard to wait, but the longer it
takes the better it will be. There is no official release date at
this time, but it is in Beta testing now so it should be out pretty

Thanks very much for the reply, nice to atleast see an occasional note
from Newtek. To bad it takes such drastic measures.
I've been a Toaster owner since '90 and have absolutely no gripes
with Newtek except I wish your s/w revs. came quicker :^).

There was only one show which had that particular credit line, and it was
in there by mistake. So the producers of MBTOD told me.

With everyone getting so hell-fired about credits and use of various Amiga
products in commercial TV projects, I think we should push for more
detailed disclosure… like how much these F/X people paid for the
software / hardware, how much extra special help they got, what other types
of licking and petting they received, a list of all the companies who've
"donated" time / materials / equipment / software to the project, what
sorts of promotional quotes have appeared in the P.R. or advertising
literature of these companies, etc.
All of these F/X teams are using absolutely whatever they can get their
hands on, for the least cost. The fact that they're using the Amiga can be
regarded as either good or bad: good for the Amiga and the companies
involved, or bad in the sense that these F/X people can only "afford" to
use or be given the most low-rent equipment around. Trust me, they're all
using Macs and PCs, too, in a synergistic setting, as much as time and
hardware allows.
as for Macs and pc's Yes were I work at te Disney Channel. But as Far as
the Sci Fi Net goes you couldn't be more wrong. A very good friend of mine
Dose ALL the effects for "Beyond the other Dominion" and He has been an
Amigoid for as long as I have Known him! they do get alot of Free and
Discounted stuff, and they do get visits from the big developers. But The
Sci Fi net is a very Low buget Production Yes even lower than the Disney
Channel…..

I didn't say that everyone who worked for a company with a recognized name
got freebies and special treatment. I said the ones we hear about through
third-party P.R. are probably getting special treatment – by definition.
Lots of companies say things like "our software is used by Lockheed and
NASA," but that doesn't really mean squat – it could just mean that there's
an Amigaphile in the company.
Now that's not to say that you and your friend couldn't garner more
attention… Here's how you do it. Go to an Amiga show. Wear a jacket or
cap from your company, carry a bag with a company logo, any other
superficial evidence will help a lot. Carry a file folder with the name of
the highest-profile show you work on… then schmoooze at every booth with
a product that you like. And then send me a check for giving you this
great advice. 🙂
I belive thats beyond the other DOMENION. And yes it is all toaster done My
good freind Ken Wilder dose all the effects for it and I belive the Whole
network….
