Supra Ships PC Emulator
23 messages in this thread
Supra will start shipping the KCS Power PC board this week. It allows Amiga
500,2000,3000 to run PC software. The board fits in the trapddoor RAM
board area on the A-500 An adapter board will be available soon for the
2000,3000.
The latest software adds color EGA,VGA video modes and supports EMS and
most hard disk systems.
Amiga Magazin in Germany rates it the best PC emuator for the Amiga.
Alan
How much will the system be for an A3000? (emulator and adaptor). How fast
is it? What are the limitations? Thanks.
What can you tell us about the KCS Power PC board? Processor? 8088? 286?
3? 4? <grin> How 'bout speed (mHz and or Norton SI)?
Does your board use the IBM expansion slots in the 2000/3000?
Steve
No it doesn't allow use of the IBM slots in the 2000/3000. Only the bridge
board from Commodore allows this.

Do you think Supra will release a PC emulator that would use the PC slots
in the 2000/3000? I would rather buy something that would use the slots.
Scott
Scott,
If you want a PC emulator that uses the PC slots, why not just buy a
BridgeBoard. They are pretty low cost right now, or you can wait a little
while for CBM to release the 386SX BridgeBoard. Somebody posted a price
for the 386SX BB a couple of weeks ago and it wasn't too bad, either.
73, Kelly
Thanx Kelly, i was unaware of a new CBM bridgeboard, shall keep an eye open
for then heh, talk to you later.
Scott
Scott
No right now I don't think Supra will release anything like that.

Sounds interesting. I have lots of questions:
1. What processor does it use? Would it be possible to upgrade the
processor in the future?
2. When you say it supports VGA, is that color or monochrome? How many
shades/colors? And will it display VGA video on the usual 1084s monitor
(albeit with flicker)?
3. Is there any way to hook up a single monitor for VGA and flickerless
Amiga native video – i.e. is there a way to use it in conjunction with some
kind of flicker fixer?
4. Does it recognize the Amiga mouse as a Microsoft (or some other kind of
PC standard) mouse?
5. Is there joystick support?
6. Will it recognize Amiga RAM as extended/expanded memory?
7. Will it recognize a 720k floppy in the Amiga's internal floppy drive? Is
there a way to connect any other kinds of floppy drives?
8. Does it take over the machine when in use, or can it function
simultaneously with one or more Amiga programs?
9. Can you transfer data files between the Amiga and PC environments?
10. Does it recognize the parallel (printing) and serial (modem) ports?
11. Can a hard disk be shared by the Amiga and PC environments?
Thanks, ===Scott

>1. What processor does it use? It uses a v30 processor which is a 8088
replacement. There is no way to upgrade the processor.
>2. When you say it supports VGA It does support VGA, color with 4 colors
on a standard 1084 monitor. But there is flicker.
>3. Is there any way to hook up a single monitor for VGA and flickerless
Amiga No there is no support on the board for this.
>Does it recognize the Amiga mouse as a Microsoft Yes it does.
>5. Is there joystick support? No.
>6. Will it recognize Amiga RAM as extended/expanded memory? No.
>7. Will it recognize a 720k floppy in the Amiga's internal floppy drive?
Is >there a way to connect any other kinds of floppy drives? Yes it uses
the internal floppy as a 720k floppy. You can use the 5.25 floppy
Commodore sells to gain access to that format.
>8. Does it take over the machine when in use Yes it takes over the
machine.
>9. Can you transfer data files between the Amiga and PC environments? Sort
of but not really. You can't access the amiga side when using the PC, but
you can use some of the utilities available to read and write pc floppies
under amigados to move data back and forth.
>10. Does it recognize the parallel (printing) and serial (modem) ports?
Yes.
>1. Can a hard disk be shared by the Amiga and PC environments? Yes, you
devote a partition to the PC environment.

Is there any way to hook up a single monitor for VGA and flickerless Amiga
No there is no support on the board for this.
==========
Ok, no support on the board… But there is a third-party flicker fixer for
the 500 (I forget the mfr) – Can the 500 contain both that flicker fixer
and your PC emulator at the same time? And if it can, would _that_ allow
you to hook up a single (multisync) monitor for both VGA and native Amiga
operating modes? Thanks, ===Scott
Scott
I believe ICD has a flicker fixer that will fit in the 500, and yes it will
fit in there along with the PC Power board.
But even with the flicker fixer you still won't gain colors in the vga
mode, but it will help the picture from flickering.

RE the VGA hookup…..You can probably accomplish this by utilizing a
switchbox, one side of which is connected to the VGA display, the other
side of which is connected to the Commodore display. (In my case, it's the
Flicker Fixer.) This works fine on my Commodore BridgeBoard, and it should
work well with the Supra…..Nancy
Will the A2000/A3000 adapter board allow for use of the IBM slots for
further expansion? If so, can one use a Super VGA board with it? And what
type of processor does the board use?
.–>Steve Bennett
Steve
No the A2000/A3000 adapter won't allow for the use of the IBM slots. The
board uses a v30 processor.

Hey "Supraman",
Tell me about this PC Emulator of yours. Guess I have had my head in the
sand…

The PC Emulator is called the PCPower board. The board is made by KCS and
distributed by Supra here in the states. It fits in the 501 slot of a
Amiga 500 and with a adpator in a Zorro II slot of a 2000.

Hey, what ever happened to the 68000 accelerator?
The 25Mhz 68000 should ship this fall. We put some other products ahead of
it in the production engineering schedule.
We have a couple of new awesome Amiga products that are close to
production. We won't talk about them until they are available–:)
Alan
Got "bit" by the SupraFAX debacle, I guess. No?
