Hello all,
I am currently working on a bulletin board package for the Amiga.
It is obvious to me that the package must support FidoNet; however, I don't
have any of the protocol specifications. If anyone has these specs or
better yet, some source code, I would greatly appreciate this information.
I am not talking about file transfer protocols, rather the
FidoNet protocol itself. I can use either Assembly, BASIC, C or C++
source. I would be lost with anything else.
While I've got your attention, if anyone has any ideas to make
this a better package than what is currently available, please feel free
to make suggestions/requests.
As of right now, the software is not going to support SkyPix… I
do not care for it myself and the majority of the people I've spoken with
aren't overly impressed with it either. What are your thoughts on this
matter?

I think that you should be able to get the protocol specifications from
any major Fidonet node or hub. Log on the largest Fidonet board that you
can
find and ask them.
Make it support Matt Dillon's UUCP package. I don't know of a BBS that
will
handle both FidoNet and Usenet, but it would be great. It would be easy to
implement his package, too.
Forget SkyPix. It's not that great. Why not make up your own terminal
emulation. With graphics in any resolution. Sound and music capabilities.
Mouse support. (I've seen mouse support on Atari ST BBS programs, and it
is
great). If you need any help with this, please tell me. I've been wanting
to do this for a long time and I have a lot of ideas.
Good luck with this. Writing a BBS is a lot of fun.

Sorry I can't help you at all with FidoNet, but I do have a suggestion.
I'm looking for a very simple BBS program. I'm currently running Matt
Dillon's UUCP package, so the Getty program controls the serial port
already. what I want is a program that is just a BBS, not one that
controlls the serial port, or anything else, and that would be called from
the passwd file in the same way as uucico is now. (if you're not familiar
with the UUCP package, you might want to look at it for some ideas)
A long time ago (I think it was 1979 or 1980) I ran a BBS on a CP/M based
computer, and there was one program that controlled the serial port (called
the BYE program), took care of hanging up the modem if carrier was lost,
etc… and there was a separate program (called RBBS) that took care of the
BBS functions, I'd like something along those lines. For myself I'm not too
interested in Fidonet access, doors, or any of the other fancy things the
new BBS programs have, but rather a simple program so users can login leave
messages, read messages, and up/download files. If you have any thoughts on
this (or anyone else reading this message) please let me know.
