Hi, I've written about this before but the advice received hasn't helped much, therefore I'll try once again. 8) I have a vanilla Amiga 2000 (68000), GVP autobooting HD, 2058 RAM expansion card(fully populated), WB 2.04 ROM w/software and a brand new SupraFAXModem V.32 (supports v.42bis). The latter is the problem. I use BackTalk as my term program and am having total failure using the xprzmodem protocol. I have RTS/CTS set in prefs with the speed set to 9600(I also tried the 2 higher settings), XON/XOFF is set to off, 8N1 is set, text gadget filter is off. BackTalk has a mostly default setup in BT.cfg(screen colors are different), the modem init. string is 'AT &F2'(modem defaults). Whenever I try to use xprzmodem(also set to the protocols defaults) I get 'error bad CRC','bad Header','garbage detected in header'…this repeats until the default error count(10) terminates the D/L then 2 screens of total garbage ensues. I have tried connecting in 'normal' mode (no error correction/no compression) to forcing it attempt v.42bis or die modes. Nothing seems to work and all produce the same results. I have also checked my cable (it's fine). Xprquickb works fine as do the other protocols except zmodem. I have reD/L'd it to ensure it isn't corrupted…same results. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jeff P.S. The modem has been checked and is performing to specs.

Jeff, There is something somewhere in your system that is not working/setup correctly. I use xprzmodem several times a week with BackTalk, using the PPI PM14400FXSA. I've got prefs set for RTS/CTS and DTE set to 38400. -sja

Steve, Thanks for the reply. Just to check what is the size/version of your xprzmodem.library. Perhaps it might boil down to that since the other xpr libs seem to work. Thanks, Jeff

Jeffrey, You might try running a zmodem download at 2400 baud (using the new Supra modem) and see if that works. If so, your system might not be able to keep up with 9600. I remember having some trouble with BT and zmodem a while back (read: a few versions ago), but since I really didn't need zmodem, I didn't bother taking the time to work it out. David

David, Thanks for the advice! I'll try it. I also note that my version of the xprzmodem protocol is 2K smaller than Steve's. Hmmm…perhaps that's it(mine is 17752). If I'm having this much trouble with a new modem, I can hardly wait for what goes on with my new 68030. 8) Thanks, Jeff
