AMAX decision

I am very interested in making my Amiga Mac compatible, but I
have a few reservations: 1) The Amax + is very attractive, but I
wouldn't I have to get the ROMS for it? Is there a way to not use the
ROMS? Can I get the ROM code on disk? On a side note: How does
ReadySoft expect to sell AMAX+ units with no ROM availablity?
2) I saw a message about this EMPLANT product and I am very interested
in it. Should I hold out for it or not? If it is compatible with the
later color ROMS, it is definitely something to wait for. I read the
whole discussion about vaporware and I agree with the logic, but I
would love to have what it promises.
If you use AMAX without the ROM you are violating the law. You can buy old
Mac Pluses, especially broke ones, for cheap. Pull the ROM out, it's easy
to do. That's what I did.
You can still get the ROMS. An old Mac Plus (broken) would work great.
You can even get old 512 or 128 ROMS and trade them in. A friend of mine
did that…..

You would need ROMs for either product. ROMs are available, but take some
work and money to get. You could use ROM images as an alternative, but
that is illegal.
As other have said: 'You CAN buy the ROMS.'
2. People have said that the co. which 'may' market the EMPLANT has put out
flakey products in the past.
I have had nothing but good luck with the AMAXII, and am impatiently
waiting for the AMAXII+ for my A3000/Toaster system.
AMAXII is a VERY cost effective way of achieving Mac compatibility w/o
giving up more desk space for another computer. As long as B/W is all you
need, then AMAXII (or AMAXII+) is the answer for you.
BTW, if you don't have some kind of flicker fixer, you may not be happy
with the display options you are given. A Flicker fixer of some kind makes
it look like a REAL B/W mac (of course it has a MUCH bigger screen than the
original Mac . . .:^).
