#2.1 SetPatch
5 messages in this thread
Andy,
Another user on the forum suggested I direct my 2.1 SETPATCH question to
you. It seems that the SETPATCH version in Workbench 2.1 is giving me
problems with my GVP PC286 emmulator. It includes a utility program that
allows you to transfer files from the MSDOS and Amiga partitions. I am
experiencing system crashes when I use these transfer utilities (they
worked okay under 2.04). The problems go away when I remove SETPATCH from
my startup-sequence, or use the 2.04 or 1.3 versions instead. Should I use
SETPATCH at all? It seems that the patches it fixes are not for my system
at all….A500 w/52Meg GVP A500HD, 3megs fast ram, 512k chipram, and
AdSpeed (gvpscsictrl patch installed). Thanks for any advice!

SetPatch is turning on the caches, moving the VBR, assuming you have an 020
or higher processor. (I'm assuming that's what you've got in the AdSpeed).
Possibly this is your problem; What are the error numbers when you crash ?
This may give another hint. I suggest you let setpatch print out its patch
list; use the cpu command to see the state of the caches, and report your
results (and tell GVP). My guess is either the transfer software isn't
flushing the cache, or there's an interrupt problem.

I have a 68030 with a Mega Midget Racer on my 1000, it sounds like
running CSA's program to add the 32-bit RAM is best run before Setpatch.

Uh-oh. Then I'd probably better yank the VBR utility I've had in my
user-startup for quite a while. I've gotta check the cache states, too,
because I have a Bridgeboard. Thanks for mentioning it.
Good luck…
