CD ROM, Inc. announces its first CD-ROM drive–the Alpha ROM(t) CRI 1000i.
The drive is a SCSI 380ms access, 64KB buffer, with a built in laser lens
cleaner. The drive comes complete with a Future Domain VLSI TMC 950 chip
and RCA jacks on the interface card. Along with a Sony caddy, and the
device driver, the drive comes with complementary audio software as well as
the newer version of the Microsoft MS DOS extensions version 2.2.
The drive retails for $599.00 but is offered through this forum for
$399.00. The external drive is $100.00 more as is the MAC version. A UNIX
driver is also available through CD ROM, Inc. for $495.00. The external
units have a universal power supply which automatically switches from 100
to 250 volts and 50 to 60 hertz. This permits you to use the drive
anywhere in the world. The internal unit runs off the computer's power,
therefore, it can also be used in any country.
That is only the beginning. CD ROM, Inc. has a new catalog (available on
May 15th, 1992) with about 50 of the most popular CD-ROM discs available
for between 5% and 20% of full retail when purchased with the drive, plus
hundreds of other discs and products.
