#PGS and old FReq
7 messages in this thread
To All:
Hello. I've been away from the Forum for a while. Happy holidays to all!
Could someone help me out with a little problem. When I installed
Pagestream v 2.2 on my 3000 I somehow was able to defeat the (new) Amiga
standard file requester and make Pagestream display the old file requester
that was standard under OS 1.3.
I have had to reinstall OS 2.04 and I have reverted to the new file
requesters again!
I need the old requester because the new one will not allow some Pagestream
macros to run. I cannot figure out how I accomplished this. There were some
messages here regarding this trick. I did _not_ use FR_Bypass. Can anyone
remember the discussions regarding this issue?
Thanks,
Rich

If I remember right, you had to edit the PgS executable and change the
name of asl.library to something like asx.library. That makes PgS unable
to load the 2.x requester and it defaults to the 1.3 (or its own, I forget
exactly) file requester.
Harry
Harry,
Bingo!
Thanks very much. Now I remember! I modified the PgS executable entry for
ASL.library to read A-L.library.
Now I can get my 1.3 style file requesters again.

If you don't want the ASL file requester in PageStream, just remove
ASL.library from your LIBS: directory. (Don't put it too far away, because
many future Amiga programs will not have custom requesters.) If ASL.library
has already been used in the current session, either reboot or flush the
library from memory then run PageStream. It'll use the old requester.

Thanks for the quick response. If I remove ASL.library from LIBS: then
other programs that want it can't get it. I have modified the PgS
executable to make PgS look for A-L.library, which of course does not
exist, so PgS then uses the 1.3 type of requester.
I guess such a fix will work until PgS no longer contains routines to use
alternatives to ASL.library, or until PgS can use ASL.library with its
macros and the escape key.
Rich
Rich,
I think you used a hex file editor (or disk editor) to change a byte so a
call for the standard requester would fail and PgS would sub its own.
Sound familiar?
Malcolm
Malcolm,
Yep. I used NewZap to edit Pgs' call to ASL.library. Renamed it
A-L.library.
Thanks,
