Does anyone want to talk about cheap, everyday media on this forum? All the
chat seems to be about high-end stuff – the best drive, the best
dictionary, hang the cost.
My grump is that I keep buying under-$100 media and with few exceptions
it's not worth the plastic it's stamped out of. Is there some other forum
best suited to exchanging info like 'Amanda Stories makes you load 18 Mb
onto your hard drive and makes a few splashing-water-type sound effects
while slowly meandering through a non-animated, nonnarrated story'?

Be nice to us, will ya? I work at Sony and we are trying hard to come with
reasonable solutions to problems amenable to multimedia approaches. And for
hardware, check out the new Sony CDU31A-01. I don't think a price has been
announced yet, but should be very soon. The drive is NOT SCSI and should be
extremely reasonable price-wise. (I hope!). It sustains 150 KB/sec (so is
MPC compatible). (The catch is the access time, but you say you don't want
the "best" — and this drive should be an excellent compromise.
