#A2088 and PC Color

I'm having a little problem with PC Color. I follow the instructions in
the manual: Start PC Mono, type MODE CO80, Close PC Mono, Open PC Color.
When I do this, I see a screen created, then the screen becomes full of
alternating lines about 2 or three characters thick, then I get a requestor
saying "Lock Links Corrupt", then the Amiga reboots itself.
Any suggestions?
Also, if I set the default jumpers to Color 80×25, shouldn't I be able to
go directly to PC Color (they're set to Mono right now).
I'm running the 1.3 Janus software under 2.04 on an A2000. I know it's
hard to predict how the 1.3 Janus will perform under 2.04, but I'm hoping
that it's a fairly direct problem. Sometime this year I hope to get the 2.0
Janus, not to mention a VGA card.

DOn't even try the old Janus; it isn't worth the effort. 2.0 is far
better, and eventually a new one will be released. One caution; installing
Janus 2 normally fails if you're at Amiga Dos 2.04.

Do you have PCprefs set for both Color and Mono? If you're running WB 2.04,
you may not be able to change them, however.
Did you say somewhere else that you had received some corrupted disks? I'm
wondering if you've got a problem with the files. Does it work if you boot
directly from the Bridgeboard install disk?

The corrupted disks are the 5 1/4" MS-DOS disks, they were apparently
copied with a floppy drive with somewhat different alignment than mine. The
Amiga disks are fine. All the Amiga programs work within the limitations
imposed by 2.04 (i.e. PCPrefs crashes every time).
Though I only have DOS 3.2 running, I did manage to copy most of the
newer files from the 3.3 disks over (by pressing 'R' alot). JLINK
(fortunately) came over and works. AREAD, AWRITE, and ATIME are hopeless.
I can change 2500prefs using newzap and then view what I've got with
PCPrefs (immediately followed by a reboot). I've got Color and Mono set ON
and running off address E0000. I even tried setting Color mode as the
default using the jumpers, but PC Color still blew up. I think I'll just
sit tight and wait for the new software.

Sounds like you're mixing the 1.3 Janus software and some of the
2.0 Janus software.
You can't do that that…you'll get problems exactly like you're
describing.

I'm not mixing the Janus software, I've just got the 2.0 Janus (if that's
the version that comes with MS-DOS 3.3) running under MS-DOS 3.2 . Once I
got a good boot disk and found out I could copy to B: with one floppy, I
copied ALL the Janus software over from the slightly corrupted disks. On
the Amiga side I've got everything from the A2088/A2286 installation disk.
This disk boots to WB 1.3, does that mean that the Janus software there is
1.3?

No…Janus 2.0 software came out under v1.2 of AmigaDOS so you've
apparently got the right software.

Your dealer should be able to give you a clean copy of the 2.0 software so
you can copy the files over. Mixing versions gets you into a lot of
trouble!
With luck, the newest Janus will be out soon.
