I bought Quarterback vers!n 5 the other day and used your patch to
upgrade it to 5.01.
Had a small problem with it. When I ran the prgram it said i needed 30
disks, but while doing the backup after inserting disk number 30 it said to
insert another disk. The disk I inserted was write protected. When the
program told me that I removed the disk and unproteced it and reinserted
it, at which point the program locked up. I had to reboot the system.
The system I'am using is an A500 with 3 meg ram and and GVP A500-HD+.

What version of Workbench are you using, 1.3 or 2.0?

I'am using 2.04. I did a second backup with no problems. But both times
the number of disks required was 1 more than the program said I would need.
Both backups where done without compression.

Thanks for the report. I'll check into it, but all the backups I've done,
or anyone else here, have not had it report that it would need one more
disk than it really needs. This might be a specific borderline case with
your system, in which case the problem might be hard to reproduce. How big
was the backup? Were both backups of the same data?

The first backup was about 30 meg, the program said I would need 30 disks
but asked for disk number 31. The second backup was about 29 meg, the
program said I would need 29 disks but required 30.

We're still looking into the inaccurate disk count problem. I still have
not had it report wrong on my end.

I also have had QB 5.0.1 require one more disk than it originally claimed
it would need.
I THINK that all it had to put on the last disk was the second copy of the
catalog (that is, all the FILES were backed up on the originally estimated
number of disks, just filling the last disk, and not leaving space for copy
2 of the catalog).
In other words, when it calculates the number of disks needed, it doesn't
add on the number of bytes in the catalog.

Actually, Quarterback was really not adding in a lot of data that was being
backed up when calculating the number of disks. The next release will have
the problem fixed down to the last byte. We worked on this for quite a
while.

Mark, has anyone mentioned that selecting Save in the Tag Filter requester
causes QB 5.01 to save a 0-byte file? I can't seem to get a tag filter
saved at all.

You need to add items to the tag filter list. The options above the
scroll list are not save, but rather just the items in the scroll
list.
Ah! I understand that now. Thanks. It might have been helpful if the
manual explained in that section how to save the rest of the settings of
the Tag Filter, too.
