#Downloading files

If I download a xxxx.lha file to a PC (ughhh!) and then "cross-DOS" it to my
Amiga; anyone know if I can then decompress using the Amiga version of LHarc
and hope that it will work? I have already tried some small files (PageStrean
fonts) but LHarc complains that the file is "incomplete". What am I doing wrong
(besides using a PC!). Rick
I have been doing this for quite a while now. The thing that you need to
check is the default translation for the files from crossdos. (It is
located in the prefs drawer). Make sure that you haven't check either of
the translation boxes. I have set mine up so that PC0 does text
translation and PC1 does not do it. For .lzh files, I just use PC1: and
all works fine.

Make sure that Cross-DOS is setup to do binary transfers. That is, do
no conversion of the file as it's being copied from one. On the version of
CrossDOS that comes with AmigaDOS 2.04 the text filtering and text
translation options should have no check marks. I presume the commercial
version is the same if that's what you're using.

I have downloaded things with my PC notebook and then unpacked them on the
Amiga without problems – and vice-versa. It ought to work. Something
else must be going wrong, because it CAN work properly.

enough, I had the PC0: and PC1: in Cross-Dos checked off. All is O.K. now. By
the way, how come you all use PC's? I was almost embarrassed to place my help
message!!!

Don has to use PC's at his place of work, as do most of our members. I
use one when I travel so that I can stay in touch with CIS – and also for
my genealogy. I needed a notebook computer that I could take to
libraries, and there is not a notebook sized Amiga.
