Vic…I'd expressed an interest in having JRR Tolkien's works on CD-ROM. I'm going to call the publishers after the weekend. What do you think? -Larry

Larry, When I saw the subject heading, I somehow assumed that "SEX" was tied-in with the work you were trying to publish. It's strange that you are interested in Tolkien's property, because I am a Director of New Media for HarperCollins Publishers (we owe the rights.) I have been trying to generate an interest in having something done with the property, but right now they're not in any hurry. We licensed the electronic rights to a computer game developer, and it's unclear as to which CD-ROM rights they hold (at least for the 5 year term of the license) and which we retain. To make things even more difficult, the Tolkien Estate is very, very picky about anything getting done with the property — they hated the animated film that came out, and are hestitant to let anyone create images connected with the work. Well, those are some of the difficulties I've run into, thus far… Who have you been in contact with? Vic

Vic…Well I hated those movies, too. I am only interested in reproducing JRRT's work and the notes/stories compiled by his son Christopher. I would also like to include the "Maps of Middle Earth" atlas by Karen Fonstad, which is also published by HMCo. I spoke briefly with someone before the holidays and he gave me the name of the person in charge of subsidiary rights. I don't have it handy, though. This is intended to be a labor of love; I didn't intend for it to be a business venture. We'll see. -Larry BTW- The topic SEX was started by Jan Schwenk and is supposed to stand for Super EXciting. 🙂
