I have been a LOYAL ASDG customer for a few years now – I just read a
message from Harv Laser – his NAB report- and was thoroughly DISGUSTED to
hear about 3!!!? new products for the Mac/Indigo- they sounded very slick
and sophisticated – with serious GUI'S.
My question is =- ARE YOU FOR REAL?? I asked about a serious upgrade to
Adpro over a year ago and was told it was coming – now I see where your
priorities went.
I OWN ImageFX, ImageMaster and ADpro. ImageFX has my vote of confidence
right now, and after this news, will get an even STRONGER recommendation
from me. I AM NOT PLEASED. (although I'm glad I didn't send in the $50 for
the upgrade to 2.3 yet)
HERE'S PART OF HARV'S POST:
" another ASDG booth. Here, Perry & Gina and crew had
no Amigas but they were showing three new products for the Mac and SGI
machines – "Elastic Reality – a Third Generation Morphing System" looked
like Morph Plus with some pretty snazzy enhancements. I watched
programmer Paul demo it on an SGI Indigo. And I gently fondled this
lovely, purple, $20,000 machine as he did so.
Instead of vectors and edges it uses bezier curve drawing tools and
splines. Very sexy stuff. "No Strings Attached" another new product is
an Automatic Wire and Scratch Removal program using AI routines. Let's
say you've shot footage of a model airplane against a background
suspended by wires or filament lines. This program will go thru the
frames and intelligently remove the wires and lines and fill in the
background seamlessly. Again, SGI only. "Image Independence" looks like
the ADPro image conversion stuff ported to Mac and SGI, with a difference
– its graphical interface can be incorporated into other programs giving
them the ability to read and write any supported image-file format."

ASDG has more full time programmers and support personnel working exclusively
on Amiga products than ever before! ADPro and MorphPlus are under development
as I write this post. The technology you see in these new products was created
during the ongoing development of ADPro 3.0 which is still to come.
We have premiered some new non-Amiga products at NAB. These products represent
a company branching out into new territories. It DOES NOT represent any sort
of abandonment of the Amiga market! It cannot be stated strongly enough that
ASDG IS NOT abandoning its Amiga developent efforts but continues to expand and
improve those efforts!
Conjectures to the contrary are pointless!

Thanks for writting you reply to ASDG_HATES_AMIGAS. I personally hate
message like this; they are only useful for starting harmful rumors.

When, BTW, can we expect to SEE Adpro 3.0?
Not for a while. This animal is NOTHING like the ADPro you all know and it is
still under heavy development. On Amigas BTW. 🙂

You mentioned support for other products, do you care to elaborate on what
other platforms you are now supporting?
Russell, given what you've said, a question on behalf of my brother.
He intends to send me a video tape of something recorded by an infrared tv
camera. He needs a black and white medium res image to view and process
on a PC based system. I have a PPS Frame Grabber. I thought of AdPro to
deal with all this; any thoughts, and what would it cost?

To get the video into the computer will cost the most. A GOOD digitizer or
framegrabber will prolly cost in the area of $1000+ and you will prolly get a
24 bit frame buffer on the same board which will allow you to view the computer
images in all their splender. Some boards are… Video Toaster IV 24 OpalVision
– Doesn't support frame grabbing yet. Harliquin Thats all I can think of at the
moment. I'm sure there are more.
Once you have the board, you bring in the frames one at a time unless you have
a real-time frame grabber. To get the best single frame digitizing, you will
need a good single frame recorder to give nice stable stills of the video tape.
A standard home VCR on pause won't cut it. A high end home VCR with single
frame stepping should work fine.
Now that you have the frames in the computer you can use ADPro and FRED to
process those frames using the provided AREXX scripts in ADPro 2.3. There is a
script called ColorToGray which will load each frame and convert it to gray and
then you can save it out in any format you choose. There are many other scripts
that can perform other processing and you can pick and choose to get the effect
you want.
The PPS FrameGrabber is reletively low end when compared to other boards and
the quality is not as good. If you only need this for non-professional work
then I'm sure it will do.

Russ, I have a very simple problem; I don't need super high quality, and I
do have the FrameGrabber, and I'm not buying any new hardware. I have
FG's original software. To try and reiterate my question, would I benefit
from having ADPro to 1. operate FG with one of your special modules, and
2. to convert the image to a form a pc can deal with?
