#Animator Pro & DOS 6
6 messages in this thread
I just upgraded from MS-DOS 5 and Stacker to MS-DOS 6 and doublespace.
Animator Pro will not even load now. I can get it to load by using F5
the clean boot, or by running it under Windows 3.1 (although very
slowly). The culprit is definitely EMM386.EXE, when I exclude it
while booting ANI loads fine.
Is there a magic switch I am missing, the only thing I do now is
exclude the range D000-DFFF for my Targa+ board.
I have a similar configuration, by performing a similar upgrade. I
however, use the QEMM memory manager, and exclude the video region of
B000-B7FF and have no problems loading it. Any suggestions on how to
make a Summasketch III Pro 18×12 work on this?
I just tried Brian's suggestion and sure enough it works fine after a
30-40 second load time. Sorry all we run are Summasketch II's and an
Acecat 6X6.
My copy works with EMM386, but it takes about 30-40 seconds to load,
while there is nothing being displayed. It may look as if the system
locked, but it really is just taking longer to load. We're looking
into why this happens now and will post a message about using DOS 6
with AAPRO soon.
I did some fiddling this morning, possibly all for not because I don't
seem to have 30-40 sec's patience in me. I tried excluding everything
in upper memory but same result. I copied the EMM386.EXE from WIN31
back and removed all the new size switches from the device and lh
lines. Rebooted and everything ran fine. I will go back and try the
DOS 6 EMM386 and waiting a little longer, this reminds me of some old
hard drives we have that can take hours to timeout when low level
formatting. I just shake my head and wonder what exactly is it doing
all that time. Maybe someone at Microsoft is lurking and can shed a
little light. I seem to be in the minority, but actually like DOS 6
and am having no trouble with it and ACAD 11/12, and everything else
we run here. Any insight is appreciated.
I'm not sure you can help me but I'm about to become a student
at the Computer Arts Inst. in SF, and was wondering if Adesk offers
any kind of student discount on Ani-Pro or 3D Studio? Any info would
be great.
