I was wondering if there is any way to render an image and/or flic
using 256 colors out of 8, or 16, or 64 shades of RED, of GREEN, and
of BLUE, instead of 256 shades of each. Another words, if I were to
use 8 shades of each linearly; so from the 256 shades of RED, we
would use shades 0, 32, 64, 96, 128, 160, 192, 224, 256 or something
like that. Would I need to do something in Animator Pro first, then
use a custom palette from there to 3D Studio (R2)? I do not know if
the question is clear enough. Any help appriciated. Thanks, Mike C.
It sounds like you've got the right idea already, Michael. Go into
AApro (or Animator) and set up the pallette any way you like it. Save
it out and use it as a custom pallette. 3DS will render the 8-bit
flic or .gif with only these colors. You could also take an existing
flc/fli and force it to a new pallette of your choosing with the One
Pallette command. Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for the reply. Another question. Is there an easy way to set
up such a pallette, as oppose to setting each of the 256 colors, one
by one, to the values required?

Mike,
It's hard for me to answer that question without knowing _exactly_
which shades of colors (and how many) you need for your pallette. My
first guess is you may have to enter them manually, but perhaps there
is a way. AApro experts out there??
As Alan says, it's hard to answer without knowing exactly what type of
palette you need. Sounds like you might want to create some ramps
instead of setting each color value. Take a look at the AniPro docs
for the Palette Screen. Note also that the default AniPro palette was
designed to provide ramps of various intensities for most colors.
If you already have a gif or picture that has the palette you want,
you can load in the gif to AAPRO and grab the palette from that
image. That is the easiest way.
