Thank you for the response.
<< For example, there's a company called Fast Forward that makes a device
called Bandit for $7000. >>
I don't get this? Wouldn't an AG7750 & Diaquest Controller cost this much? For
25% more you could drop in the ATVista. Whats the advantage of the Fast
Forward Device at this Price?
James
James,
double California dittos <g>.
They will certainly have their work cut out trying to convince people to cough
up $7000 for a square pixel (640×480), composite only jpeg board – and you
still need a vtr! Am I missing something here? For that kind of money and mere
composite quality (versus component, rgb and digital like the Matrox stuff)
people are ulikely to take a second look at it. The frame accurate deck,
software controller, and targa+ (or Matrox illuminator pro) would be much more
attractive at that approximate price point and you'd have a nice vtr. For 30
seconds of video (900 frames) with the latter setup you're looking about 2.5
to 3 hours to lay frame-by-frame but this would be _lossless_, and you'd have
the choice of rgb, s-video or composite outputs. No contest, IMHO <g>.
However, if they add CCIR601 (720×486 resolution), component, s-video, digital
and composite inputs/outputs, and then lower the price a few thousand people
might sit up and take notice <g>.
I'd be glad to hear other people's opinions on this, especially if I'm missing
the value in this product.

Martin:
Let me explain. It has analog RGB out, and SVHS, as well as composite, and
the same in. It has a digital 4:2:2 input decoder.
So we're talking a digital recorder here! Any device that takes RGB in real
time could accept the data, as well as SVHS, and, like I said, component
coming this summer!
It accepts data from a SCSI input from the computer, as well as video.
You could do true digital editing with this unit, moving frames around, and
controlling the output. It is comes with 32 megs of memory, and will record
30 seconds of full-motion video at high quality. The Abekas only does 20
seconds! And by adding memory or hard disk you could go longer. I've seen
it work, it's pretty hot stuff!
I'll give you a call when we get ours in for you to come over and take a
look at it…
Greg Pyros
Greg,
I thought you said it only did composite? Oh well, it does sound a lot better
by your description, a lot better.
Martin:
I said it did composite, I just didn't add that it did all those others,
too! Sorry for the confusion! <g>
Greg Pyros
Greg,
I'd certainly like to see that when it comes out.
Martin:
It is out! It just doesn't have a 3DS driver yet! We'll have it done soon!
Greg Pyros
James:
For starters, you don't have to wait for the tape to rewind and reset each
frame. In theory, I suppose, you can stream to tape because there's enough
speed in the memory to lay the data down to digital tape.
