#Upgrade offers?

Hello,
Does anybody know if there are upgrade offers out for CD-ROM titles? I
acquired a CD-ROM drive bundled with several titles, and I see now that there
are newer Windows versions of the titles out now. It wouldn't be worth it to
buy the new Windows versions at full price, but I might entertain the thought
of an upgrade. Thanks for any information.
KiYun (there, got the name right that time <G!>), I can only answer for one
bundle, one manufacturer. When I bought my first drive it came with a bundle
that included an OEM version of Microsoft Bookshelf. After I sent in the
registration card I received the updated version directly from Microsoft. I was
very impressed, especially since in those days discs were tough to come by. My
suggestion (after reading other answers you are sure to get here) is to contact
the manufacturers directly and see what they have to say. You may well be as
pleasantly surprised as I was. Cheers!

Once again, thanks for being helpful. I will get in touch with the
manufacturers, but I don't hold much hope for a free upgrade! I've got a
couple discs I wouldn't mind paying a little to upgrade, though.
KiYun, a suggestion. Do you access cd-rom conferences on the BBS nets such as
RHYME, FIDO, INTELEC, NANET etc.? If not you might consider looking for some on
local BBSs. They are something of a flea market/classified ad section for
titles. For instance when I received a $99 update notice for the (I believe)
$295 New Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia I had already seen it listed for sale
in the nets for about $80 at the end of 1992. I have seen it as low as $60. I
vaguely recall other cases where I've seen discs for open sale at prices lower
the update prices, at least those on the press releases.
Of course you have to pay postage — and have some faith that you'll actually
get something. On the other hand I've yet to be stiffed on any purchase I've
made through my computer in the last seven years. Maybe I've been lucky, but I
think most dealers are quite good on the nets.
At least it is something to consider. You might also list the discs you are
particularly interested in here and ask that quotes be sent to you by private
e-mail. There might be dealers who have particularly good prices. Then, of
course, you have your original to sell and cut your cost. Cheers!

I have made several purchases on CIS and haven't (yet) been disappointed. A
little frustrated sometimes, but in all fairness, have received great value
here. Most sellers will ship to you COD, so you *will* receive something.
It's up to you to be specific and explicit to the seller, exactly what you are
expecting. I don't think most of the "class" of people on the/this net are
actually out to rip any one off. You must protect yourself and be armed with
as much info as possible, but you can shop around on CIS and probably find what
you want for QUITE a bit less than anyplace else. Don't forget to check
CIS:CLASSIFIEDS, too. Sometimes you have to look for weeks, or longer, but if
you have the time, it can be well worth it…
