#Genealogy Program
4 messages in this thread
I downloaded A. Housell's AFT.LHA program yesterday. At the start, it
responds a normal speed. Gradually, however, the computer bogs down
as if there was a memory problem. The computer remains bogged down
after exiting AFT, and has to be re-booted. I am running an A2000
with a 68030 Derringer and have 1 meg chip and 10 meg fast ram.
Although the doc file refers to a "CPU hogging problem" being fixed,
the program is not useable on my setup. Anyone with similar
problems….or some advice on what is happening with AFT? Otherwise,
it looks like a great program.
Hmmm.. I had the same problem with AFT a few revisions back. Andrew did
fix it though. I have not had it bog down since.
I'm not sure why it is bogging on you. Why don't you email Andrew with
your setup?

I don't recall having this program when I was testing AFT, but I haven't
worked with it in three or four weeks now. I think it really is a great
program. Andrew is on CompuServe quite often, and I think you really
should contact him about the problem. He works hard on this program, and
fixes every problem he can track down.
I don't know of any genealogy program for the Amiga that I really like
better than AFT, so I do hope this problem can be solved.

I am sorry to read that you are having a problem with my program.
I wonder if you could answer a few questions for me to help me track
down the problem.
– Roughly what size family tree are you using with the program? 10s
of people, 100s or 1000s? With 10 megs of ram you should have plenty
of space for several thousand people.
– What route did you use to create your family tree? Did you type
the data in by hand, or import an existing GEDCOM file?
– AFT does start up separate tasks for displaying data on people in
the database. Perhaps one or more of these tasks is not being shut
down when you quit the program. Do you have a utility you can use to
check what tasks are running after you quit AFT?
Please let me know if you come up with any more information on this
problem, I would like to get this fixed quickly if possible.
