I've been lurking pretty steadily on this forum since I got my PAS 16 last year, mostly to help figure out which CD-ROM drive to get. After following everyone's comments, I pretty much had narrowed it down to either the Texel 3024 or the Toshiba 3401; I was leaning heavily toward the Toshiba. A vendor at a computer fair I went to over the weekend had the Texel for $369 and the Tosh for $489. With both models staring me in the face, I decided that 65ms faster seek time, 192k larger buffer, and ~20kb greater transfer rate wasn't worth $120, particularly since I'd seen several messages from satisfied PAS/Texel owners here and in MediaVision's forum. The installation was practically flawless, and the only problems I had were my own: once, the SCSI cable wasn't fully attached to the PAS, then I inadvertantly flipped the cable so that pin 1 wasn't connecting to pin 1! Once those problems were remedied, everything was great! Anyway, to those who are regular posters in this forum, a heartfelt "Thanks" for all your comments. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's found them helpful. Evan

And now likely (hopefully) you won't be a lurker any more, Evan. Welcome to the wonderful new world of cd-rom and multimedia. You're going to love it. Cheers!
