I have had a problem with my Amiga 2000 ever since I bought it 3 years ago. It
seems to "overheat" in the summer time or whenever the room is too warm. When
this happens, my graphics mess up or I get a "Guru Error." Has this happened
to anyone else? If so, what was the cure? Commodore says it is probably the
power supply, but others have blamed the one meg. fatter Agnus.

Generally heat related problems are chips not fully seated in their
sockets…or poor solder joints.
If you're familiar with electronics…you could open up the Amiga and
make sure all the socketted chips are properly seated. If you're not
familiar…I wouldn't attempt it, have your local dealer (if you can find
one anymore) do the job for you.

I've had a similar problem with my 2000 although it only happens with
hires and with a few programs (Prowrite,Propage/draw). I was told it may
be my fast ram so I removed it, checked the connections and replace the
ram board. That seemed to fix it. I was also told it was chip ram but
fiddling with the ram board seemed to discount that theory. I also didn't
notice any relationship between the temperature and the problem, so we may
not be experiencing the same problem. By "mess up" what exactly do you
see?

Andrew: Thanks for your reply. My computer only "messes up" when the room
temperature nears 80 degrees or higher. I work in Deluxe Paint IV quite a bit
and that seems to touch off the problem a lot sooner than other programs. I
may be working on a picture (usually hires) and it will get ghost figures that
cannot be removed and after awhile, the computer will either get a Guru or
blank out completely. It never happens in Winter when the room temperature is
cool.
Well, Pat, hmmmm…
…No, I've never had that problem. With mine the menus would get messed
up as if someone had scratched out menu items with a pencil and the drag
bar would have artifacting.
Have you looked inside to check that the fan is clear of wires and/or
lint? How many internal peripherals do you have? Unfortunately I haven't
any experience to help you further except say that perhaps get an air
contioner for your computer room 😎 or pay to get it looked at.
