I have an Amiga. I recently purchase a Hewlett Packard Deskjet 500C color printer to be able to do some color printing. Drivers for the Amiga system are not supplied by HP. I have checked with Commodore as to the availability of a driver for the HP Dj 500C only to be told that the latest version of Workbench does not support this printer in color but only as an ordinary Deskjet 500 in B & W. Do you know of anyone that has found drivers for the 500C or of third party software available for Amiga that would support this printer. This printer has been out for over a year and still no support from Amiga/Commodore !!!

You'll be able to find the driver by searching the HP Peripherals forum. GO HPPERIPHERALS. You can also get one from mail order in some of the stores in AmigaWorld. Bob

Thanks for the info. I did find one in drivers but the Amiga belongs to a friend of mine. I'm on an IBM system and now we are searching for a way to download it on my IBM and then convert it for him to be able to read it and load it on his system. There is no one around here who seem to have an AMiga with a modem Dick

Dick, You will need to get a copy of CrossDos. He should be able to get one at a retailer or through mail order. CrossDos will allow him to read MSDOS disks on the Amiga…tel him it's a must have!!! Tell him I said so (and than he'll say "Who?") 🙂 Bob

Two things: First, the latest upgrade of AmigaDOS (2.1, I think?) comes with a driver for the HPDJ500C… The upgrade is around $45 (you need the 2.04 ROM, first). Second: If your friend with the Amiga has CrossDOS, there's no problem. You can download the file onto your IBM, onto a 720K floppy, and he can read it off that disk with CrossDOS (the latest version just came out – and it includes CrossPC [C By the way, I have a DJ500C also, and love it!! Hope this was helpful… – Rob.

Dick, The drivers that come with 2.0 *do* support the HP Deskjet 500C–in color even. I use it all of the time. -mark=

Dick, Look in Library 10 Printer Drivers. There should be a driver called DJ500C.LZH. Chris

Dick, I have an HP Deskjet 500C color printer that I am using with the Deskjet 500C driver supplied by Commodore on the Amiga Extras disk that is part of the latest 2.1 version of the Amiga Dos operating system. I don't know why Commodore would tell you that they don't make a driver for this printer! This upgrade from 2.04 is available from Creative Computers or from many Amiga dealers. The driver works fine in both black and white and color. Another driver available for the 500C is the Super DJC driver from Creative Focus Box 580 Chenango Bridge, NY 13745-0580. Tom

I'm not sure what the definition of `latest version of workbench' is, but both WB2.1 and WB3.0 come with a colour 500C driver. A friend of mine who has a deskjet reckons that it is the best one he's used. Comments have been made on CIS before though, that there is no driver for the 550C that takes advantage of the black ink cartridge on colour dumps. Steve the G. [BEDFORDSHIRE, UK]
