In your Docs to Vidtape Storage You state that one could go to SWREG on
Compuserve and download the file for which Compuserve would bill me the
registration fee. I found that all I could do was register the program
with SWREG. There was nothing on the menus about download options. Am I
missing something? I assume that registering is all one can do in SWREG
and that the uncrippled program will be sent by Email or something, is
this correct?

You are correct. Before I made a submission to the SWREG area, it was
explained to me that the users would download the full version at that time.
You are, as you say, simply registering the software. I have placed the demo
version in this forum and then the registered version will be sent to your mail
box. I am not home right now but as soon as I get home later this morning, I
will send you the full version of Vidtape. I did receive notification that you
registered it. I will have to correct the docs and send the new file to this
forum.
I appreciate you registering the software and if you should have any problems
with it, please send me e-mail. Also if you should have any suggestions on how
to make it better, I would love to hear them.

All my tapes are numbered and my present database list the titles and
their tape number. During my earlier taping I put 3 movies on a tape. This
means that I should be allowed to add 3 titles to one tape number. What I
do is look at a printout of my list, find the title and tape number, then
go to my video library and find that numbered tape (the tapes are filed
numerically). I find this easier than searching for titles among my tapes.
As of now, your program (and a great one too!) does not allow more than
one entry to one number. Do you think you could address this problem? I am
looking forward to getting a lot of use out of your program. I have
approximately 400 movies on tape at this time.

Hmmmm… That's a pretty big problem. The database entry numbers are
based on the database entries themselves. There would be no way to add
more than one movie for each entry because by definition, there would be
more entries… (does that make sense?). I'm not even sure how I might
set up the program to do that. Any ideas on how the program might work
that way? Perhaps making another text field called "tape number"? Of
course, this would only be necessary on Vidtape since you can't record on
a laser disc (yet). Hmmm…. definately something I will look into for
the next version.
Thanks for the idea. In the meantime, if length isn't that important to
you, you might try using the length for the tape number (000-9999). That
way youu can have it as a separate entry and search by tape number. It
would also let you know what tape number any of your movies are on! At
least it will work until I can update the program to do what you like.

Jon,
I like having a length field in the program, so I think I will wait to see
if you come up with something in the future, Movies are not the only thing
we tape. There are numerous TV documentaries and such that are 1 hour in
length resulting in two or more shows on one tape (depending on recording
speed). This also would call for different titles with the same tape
number. I really don't know much if anything about programming, so I can't
be of much help in how you could accomplish this.

Okay, so you're not a programmer… do you think that supplying another
field for tape number would be sufficient? It would allow each user to
use their own numbering system with unlimited titles per tape number…
you could even use number and letter combinations if you want. I know you
can't possibly state how to do this programmically, but, does this sound
like what you are looking for? I'm just trying to make sure I am doing
things so that they are most convenient…
