Yes, it dates you, but Doc and Merle are/were HOT! I saw them in Ashland, OR
when I was living there. If you partied with Santana and didn't recognize
him…well I don't know WHAT to say…

Totally embarrasing on my part….Of course the chances of ever running in to
them again were zip cause' I was heading back to Wisconsin the following week.

Maybe I'll get lucky at one of the AutoDesk Events and run in to Dr. Leary

Our last concert was Pink Floyd in Milwaukee many years ago… The Brown Shirts
took my Sue-z's favorite Christmas gift perfume went through her purse had the
dogs sniff our crouchs and pushed us through the gate…wait there's more.. we
passed giant mail baskets hundreds of them filling up with thermos's, chairs
items that made no sense to confiscate. When we got to our seats they delayed
the concert an hour and a half until the "Milwaukee Police" were satisfied the
crowd was under control. five min. in to the concert they dragged the guy two
seats in front of us out of the stadium "By His Hair" for lighting up a Joint
and Posted a guard two seats behind us during the entire concert. Yes I just
love the Milwaukee Police Department….no damn wonder they can't get the
communities to support them. I won't even go to SummerFest any more because of
the Hassle. I hope the Packers Stop Playing those 3 Home Games in Milwaukee
just because of the lousy way their police department treats visitors. Nothing

just after all these years I'm still upset about how they treated my wife and
I..Hell we were even dressed very conservative… I can imagine what would have
happened if I would have worn the "Mad Max "outfit…Leathers..HighPoint
Boots.. ETC.

Got A Computer Question for you….. I've been adding so much software to my
demo system that I've started writting Multiple Autoexec.bat routines with
different Paths for each Group.. I really have to get a better handle on this
and I've been wondering if the Substitute or append command would be a better
way to go…any ideas..How are you handling the ever growing Path problem?
Now that I've gotten IPAS/Schreiber Authorized I'm Gonna have the same problem
inside 3D Studio with all the IPAS Routines and the Schreiber Stuff..It never
ends.. Guess I'm Just Gonna hav'ta Buy another Machine "Just for 3D Studio" and
another for Developing software and another for solids..another for windows
multimedia.. Grasp…Etc<g>LaTER.

Sure, I've got Leary's home phone… I helped him set up his Amiga for his
lecture tour a few years back.
Ah, I remember Milwaukee in 1969 like it was yesterday – the women, the
parties, the chocolate milk, walking to first grade at St Peter & Paul… 🙂

Seriously John, I wouldn't want to impose on Dr. Leary but I would truely like
to meet him some day. Perhaps I will be attending an event at AutoDesk or in
that general area in the future and could check with you or his publicist
regarding a photo opportunity and maybe a few min. of interesting conversation.
I actually have an old Video tape "Somewhere around here" of the Dr. Leary and
Dick Cavett interview many years ago when he first started going public again.
In it I remember he mentioned the Future was in Computers and that was actually
one of the reasons I'm an AutoDesk Multimedia Dealer today. Strange that I
might have the oppertunity to actually thank him in person. A lot of people in
my generation ( I'm in my 40's ) only remember the sensational press garbage.
A few of us actually listened to what he had to say and are really the better
for it. Dr. Leary and I may have something in common in that both of us seem
to have been ahead of our time in many instances, however I've learned to
disregard the rest of the worlds opinion when it came to future technologies
because you gotta lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way…. I prefer to
Lead and ignore my detractors. This sometimes gets a bit difficult especially
when you're trying to convince someone of the benifits of working in 3D Space
all the while they're concerned about "Change" being an "inconvience". When I
start getting bogged down with that I remember how nice it is to be doing what
you want to be doing regardless of your bank accounts current status. "Just
give me a 3 Dimensional environment and a computer program to steer her by."
Seriously John, I would like to meet Dr. Leary. Do you think this would be
possible perhaps next time I'm in the area?

If you know what he looks like, and I'm sure we all do, then start attending
various events like Siggraph, CES, Comdex, hang around the booths you *know*
he'll visit, and then introduce yourself. By now, he might have a few
look-alikes… there are certainly enough Jaron Lanier clones running around.

Typing 🙂 means "smiley" or "tongue in cheek." As for Jaron Lanier clones,
they were everywhere. Gary, didn't you say something about this in your
post-Siggraph article in Cadence?

Paths– I don't like the way installation routines add everything to the path,
so I tend to start programs with a batch file in the c\bat directory. Helps to
keep my path shorter. I also have a batch file called PATHH.BAT:
path=c:\;c:\bat;c:\dos;e:\wp51;e:\win;c:\3com;d:\ec;c:\bin;c:\misc;
but depending on what you're doing, you might have several PATHH.BATs, and call
the appropriate one with your batch files as needed.

Thanks for the input regarding the Path files question. I've got to believe
there is a more efficient way of doing this. Being a Small Company I use my
486-50MHz for "EVERYTHING" Its increadable that everything works together as
well as it does. Now that I've taken on the additional roll of "Developer" I
find that some of those sloppy patch jobs I had been using in the past just
aren't going to get it any more. It's funny how little knowledge about the
basic operating system many of us actually have…lately I've been
"Discovering" all kinds of things about MS-DOS 5.0 that I never really fully
understood or Knew existed. I absolutly refuse to get involved with DOS 6.0
until Microsoft comes out with an "odd numbered" Version. Murphy's Law Number
111 "Never Purchase or in any way get involved with any _Even_ numbered
operating system or software package."
Of course, as a Dealer this means that I will be anxiously awaiting the
shipping date of 3D Studio Release 3.01A <g>
Going back to my "Developer" roll…I've just comitted to involvement in an
AutoDesk Product related third party product. I can't get in to much more
detail right now but I would appreciate it if you could point me in the proper
direction as to who at AutoDesk I may contact as far as becoming a "Registered"
third party Developer.
