Martin, >> explain the VESA problem Well, its really a problem particular to my using the ATI Ultra + and the VESA.COM that is supplied with it. HiRes QFX is available in a VESA VGA version, but the VESA driver that your board come with (and of course the board itself) must be able to produce atleast HICOLOR (32k colors) if not TrueColor (16m colors). The reason I pissed is that I have a graphics card which is capable of producing 16M colors at 800×600 and the VESA driver that is supplied with the ATI card doesn't seem to support any modes with greater than 256 colors ….#$!X!! Yes, now I see. I wonder if my Genoa 7900 24-bit card has the 24-bit vesa support. To tell you the truth I didn't think vesa had come up with a 24-bit standard yet.

let me ask you a question. I have a targa+ 32 which gives me a 512X486X32 image. getting hires qfx from ron scott for the targa would limit me to 512X486X32 right? Wouldn't you be better of getting a version thta would work with one of the super vga cards capable of 1000X1000X24 or some such number. Right know i not sure weather to by ron scott or photoshop. it seems that with photoshop and a hires card you could manipulate images more effectivly than with being saddeled with the 512X486X32 targa. any imput would be appreciated Rock

I think you're right about the targa+16/32 limitation of 512x486x32, although it might work at the highest 16-bit resolution (756×486). I don't use the targa+ version – I use the vista version on a client's system and generally have the resolution at the highest possible 32-bit resolution. Check anything you consider buying for compatibility with the product. I didn't know Photoshop was available on the PC? Are you sure?

>> wouldn't you be better with a VESA high res Rock, Well, not if you are doing video. If you are going to video, I think you'd be safer to edit you images in video (512x486I). Ang

>> Genoa VESA driver OK? Genoa does have a VESA driver that will support 16M colors … I'm not sure if it was the driver that shipped with the board though. I believe the Genoa 7900 is a T4000 chip so the latest version of TLIVESA.COM (I think) will fix you right up. The VESA version of HiRes QFX is the same price as the Targa version …$1k. The best video card is a "dumb" VL-BUS frame buffer (so says Ron Scott). Ang
