I wanted to ask you guys a bit of advice, if you don't mind.
I helping to assemble a 3D Studio video animation system for a
institution and a system for my self. The question is… If the new graphics
boards, like the Viper, handle 24bit and 32bit images like Targa and Matrox
boards, is there really a need for the Targa and Matrox boards? I know that the
Viper won't output NTSC, but then neither will the Vista. If, as I heard, you
guys are working on an IPAS to render to JPEG, or software can convert TGA to
JPEG, wouldn't it be more cost effective to buy a JPEG board – a board that can
encode and decode broadcast video to JPEG – and output video in that manner.
After all, to render in the traditional way, one has to buy a frame buffer, VTR
controller, and a frame accurate deck.
If frame buffers are still the way to go, should I wait until SIGGRAPH
before I purchase them. Neither I nor the non-profit insitute have alot money
(but then who does (g)).
