I have an Acer 486 PC that allows me to orient it either as a desktop or as a
mini-tower, and I'm currently using in in the tower position. This means that
if I get a CD-ROM drive, it would be in a vertical position. Will this work?
If it will, is a caddy or non-caddy style drive better? Any advice would be
appreciated.

Brian…The Texel 3024's manual states that it can be run either vertically or
horizontally. I use the external model vertically. This drive uses caddies.

It seems most drives can operate vertically, these days, but you should check
out your specific prospective purchase first, just in case.
