Does anyone have any idea where I can get an Arexx script that will allow me to batch translate a group of TGA or GIF files into various Amiga modes using AdPro ? I have Anim Workshop from Axiom and it allows for the plug in of other Arexx scripts, it would be nice to be able to use it to translate all of my tga or gif files and then create an animation out of them. BTW: Anim Workshop is a nice tool. I hope that the get support for more anim types in it soon, right now it only supports Anim-op5…

Your prayers have been answered! Try ProCONTROL by Doug Crane distributed by ASDG. It blows away Anim Workshop. Here's the info: 4/5/93 The following is a description of ProCONTROL, a batch processing tool for ASDG's Art Department Professional. It is available directly from ASDG at a cost of $50.00, as mentioned in their recent upgrade notice for ADPro 2.3. (please note that ProCONTROL only supports ADPro 2.3 and up) —– ProCONTROL is a point-and-click front-end for batch processing images with Art Department Professional. With ProCONTROL, you'll never have to write another ARexx script for ADPro again! ProCONTROL even allows multiple scripts to be run in succession to save time. Some of ProCONTROL's powerful features include: o Save scripts for repeated use. o Create movement in your effects! With ProCONTROL it's simple to have a picture float across a backdrop, have the BLUR effect increase over time, etc. In fact, at any point where a value or coordinate is requested in ProCONTROL, movement may be specified. This means motion effects can be created with ANY operator. Animate with rectangle, crop, tile, scale, and more; all you have to do is think of it! o Calculated files. To create certain effects in ADPro, it is sometimes necessary to make intermediate files, then use those to achieve the desired results. To facilitate this, ProCONTROL will let you write scripts that use files which haven't been created yet. For example, while writing script #3, ProCONTROL's file requester will show files saved by scripts #1 and #2, even though they won't actually exist until ADPro begins processing. Now you can start your script and walk away, insead of waiting for each step to finish so you can load pictures for the next. o Frame in/frame out support. You may specify frame numbers for any line of your script to begin being processed, and a frame number after which the line will once more be ignored. This allows you to use operators only during parts of an anim, for example. It also makes possible complex movement in animations. o ProCONTROL supports file hits from ASDG's Sentry program (new in 2.3, Sentry will scan a directory for new files, and perform an action when one is detected). One use for this is to automatically process frames from 3-D programs as the files are created, thereby saving hard-drive space. o And FINALLY, a straightforward, very efficient interface which makes setting up ARexx commands for ADPro a breeze. All loaders, operators, and savers have a point-and-click interface so scripts can be written in seconds. o Loaders, saver and operators (including convolutions) are supported. o Fully supports ADPro's ANIM loader/saver. o Custom backdrop/backline interface to make it easy to set up backgrounds. o Easy screen and colors configuration. o Supports all of ADPro's palette functions (except editing). ProCONTROL is the perfect tool for animators, allowing special effects to be added to large numbers of files easily. It's also helpful in converting pictures to and from different formats. Even if you just want to save a script for use over and over again and you don't want to learn ARexx, ProCONTROL is the answer. Please see included screen shots for examples of backdrop, palette, script info, and requester interfaces, as well as ProCONTROL interface and progress panel. For more information, call ASDG at (608) 273-6585 ProCONTROL is written by Doug Crane/element Software Design and is published under exclusive license by ASDG, Inc. Art Department Professional is a registered trademark of ASDG, Incorporated More has been added since this release. Most of ProCONTROL sounds nice but you made a mistake. Sentry doesn't work so it makes ProCONTROL not too useful. Do you know of a program that can do what Sentry was suppose to be able to do? –Paul < Motorola Inside >

Paul, I understand Sentry does have some problems. I've read the messages to ASDG. But, don't under estimate ProCONTROL. It can be used on many levels. Depending on how complex you want to get. It fully supports ALL ADPro ARexx funcions, and them some added by Doug Crane. What is it exactly you want to do? I beta tested the program for a year. I tried to think of every possible scenario it could be used for. Let me know what you want to do. If ProCONTROL cannot do it (which I doubt), Doug will put it in the next release. A lot of thought was put into this program. He is committed to giving the animator all the power and flexibility he can possibly harness. We both create animations and video graphics for living. We know what its like to have an idea and not be able to implement it because of software or time restrictions. ProCONTROL is a result of the fustration in waiting for a such product to address OUR needs. Others have tried, but none have come close. ProCONTROL really pushes the "edge of the envelope". Drop Doug Crane a post. -Louis On AUTOPILOT over Chicago…

ooops! I forgot to ask you were I might be able to order it ? We no longer have any Amiga dealers in Kansas City Missouri so it'll have to be mail order or direct…

Paul, The program speaks for itself. Drop Doug Crane a line. He can answere any other questions you might have. I have a demo of it that I can upload if you want. It has a couple of screen shots and shows some of the requestors. If you have ANY suggestions, please, let Doug or myself know. It is the only way we can get this caliber of program out into the right hands and minds… =Louis On AUTOPILOT over Chicago…

>Does anyone have any idea where I can get an Arexx script that will allow >me to batch translate a group of TGA or GIF files into various Amiga >modes using AdPro ? Have you tried FRED? I have been able to get FRED to batch proccess lots of frames (100s) at a time without writing ANY scripts! It did take me a while to get it to work since I got confused but when I finally `saw the light' it has worked like a charm. <<< Tony D. Tracer >>>

You should really look into ProCONTROL. It makes FRED look like child's play, and much easier to use. -Louis On AUTOPILOT over Chicago…

FRED comes with ADpro, if you don;t own Adpro or don't have WB 2.xx you can't use it. /s
