#Notebook, Plug-n-Play CD

I have a client who wants a CD-ROM drive in a notebook, or else an external
drive that could be plugged into a notebook, presumably via a serial or
parallel port pass-through. I seem to remember seeing one notebook with a
built-in CD drive advertised a while back in CD Professional, but can't
remember the vendor. Does anyone have suggestions for vendors, and possibly
even phone numbers? Thanks.
For portables/luggables with built-in standard full size CD-ROMs check out:
– Scenario's DYNAVISION
– Grid (last time I saw their offering it was an attached drive with a
standard SCSI interface)
– AVG (haven't heard from them lately)
– Dolch (very high end – one of the execs here has a new system with
builtin CD-ROM drive, speakers, color, 486, >1gig hard drive – a real
screamer)
-Toshiba (I'm not sure about the built-in part)
For notebooks with a portable external full size drive, check anybody's
notebook connected to a portable drive (such as an NEC CDR 38) via a parallel
to SCSI interface such as offered by Trantor (they are on the new CD-ROM
vendor forum).
For a notebook and external battery operated full-size CD-ROM drive where the
notebook and the drive each has the same battery (so one charger can recharge
both on the road) try NCR's Safari.

I saw your message to Terry Brogan, re: notebook CD-ROM. I would appreciate a
copy of the artical about portable CD-ROM systems which you mentioned in that
message. I have often thought about how handy such a system would be in my law
practice since I started using CD-ROM based research materials.
