I am a relatively new user to Compuserve. And I am on a very steep learning
curve. Whenever I print text off the screen the printer goes to the end of the
line and then drops down to the next line and prints the remaining letters or a
word. It then skips a line and starts a new row of words. The resulting page is
very hard to read because of the wraps and line skipping. I have tried
different settings on my workbench printer preferences and also worked with by
printer (Panasonic P1123 24pin) with no success. My system is an Amiga 500 with
2.5 meg memory, 3 floppy drives and a SupraModem 2400. I am using A-Talk III
for my connection to the network. I am also weak in how to get the program to
down-load and the obtain graphics like weather maps. If there is anyone out
that can help be get straightened out on any of these problems I would

Download AutoPi;ot from the AmigaVendor section, Library 9, AP.LHA. All
your troubles will disappear!

If I gather this correctly, you're doing a "screen print" or something
to that effect, and your CompuServe settings are "defaulted" to a screen
width of 80 characters, which is probably too big a line for your printer;
while you're here type GO DEFAULTS and change your Screen Width to 76
characters; and check to see that a command something like "LF after CR"
(LineFeed after Carriage Return) is set to "Off", which should take care
of your double-spacing.
Can't help you with A-Talk III; sorry.
Now that I think of it, your double-spacing problem may be in your
printer: If you don't have a specific switch that involves "Linefeeds
On/Off", you _might_ have one that specifies "IBM/Epson Emulation" which
may control whether or not a Linefeed gets tacked onto every line sent to
the printer. For what might be obvious reasons by now, you would want to
set such a switch to "Off" or "IBM".
Also, don't forget (like so many of us do) that every time you change a
switch setting, you have to reset the printer (power off, then on).
Your line length on CompuServe is longer than the line length your printer
is expecting. You can solve this in several ways. One is to go to your
global settings for CompuServe (GO DEFAULT) and set your line length to a
smaller number – maybe 75 instead of 80. I *think* that will do it for
you, but I'm not certain. You could also set your printer to use a
smaller font and longer line length.
For ATALK, be sure you have the xprbplus.library in your libs: directory.
If you have it, you can use CompuServe BPlus protocol, which is the best.
Set Atalk for 8 bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, and select BPlus protocol
from the transfer menu/protocols. Then, when you find something you want
to download, use the command DOW PROTO:B so CompuServe will know you want
to download. You will then be asked for a name for your computer – type
both the path and the filename, such as ram:file2.lha.
ATALKIII will then require you to press right-Amiga and R in order to
start the download.
For weather maps, download one and you can display and study it while you
download the next one. The Amiga cannot display them during the download,
but it is faster to do it our way, anyway. And you can save the maps for
as long as you wish, too.
