#Multi-I/O question
13 messages in this thread
I've recently purchased the OAK multi-I/O board from Elite Microcomputers
and it is now working fine with my 286BB. But to get it to that point I
had to change jumper JP1 from VGA to VESA. In the VGA position I could
not access any resolution higher than 640X480 even with the VGAMODE.COM
program included with the board. I know very little about VGA and even
less (i.e. nothing) about VESA. My question is this…Has anyone else
experienced this same situation (Is this unique to my system or is it a
characteristic of the board)? And second, am I gaining or loosing
anything by switching to VESA compatibility?
Ronnie,
Yep, what you experienced is normal. Keep the card in VESA mode, which
is default, to access all the possible resolutions including all the normal VGA
resolutions. I use mine at 800 x 600 resolution, which doesn't require VESA,
but it works just fine. With the card in VESA mode you can use resolutions
much higher if the monitor supports them. There are two utilities on the OAK
diskette related to VESA. One is in the VESA directory and one in the
Utilities directory which are created when you install the OAK files. Neither
are used or needed unless you wish to use the higher scan rates supported by
the card. If you only plan to use 800 x 600 or 768 x ?, you needn't do
anything than what you are doing now. Leave the card in VESA mode and don't
worry about it!
VESA mode is better, and will allow greater compatiblity. But I set the
default to VGA mode so the refresh can't be set above 60Hz. In VESA mode
you can set it up to 72Hz, but this can "blow up" some monitors so VGA is
the safe setting, and will prevent any accidents.

Dave,
Have the 386 BBs gone out yet? I'm getting antsy!!

And I'm getting pissed off….C= told us that they WILL be here by last
thursday. And I haven't heard anything. Right now I am looking (without
much luck) for an alternate source.
This was the 3rd date they gave us.

Dave,
Thanks for the info. Hope this isn't ultimately bad news. I hate to
ask, but should I look for an alternate source? Oh well, I guess I can stick
it out a while. I know it's not your fault.
We had the first order in….we (in a way) started the price drop. I was
cutting a deal that if I bough a large amount they would give me good
pricing. 3 days later this stock reduction came about….
SOOOOOOOO if anybody should have them first it should be us….but
considering how C= operates who knows.

I'm sitting on Safe Harbors back order list for a 386 and was getting ansy
so I called them last friday. Their statement was they were told by C=
that they should have their BB early this week. I heard this before tho,
about a month ago!!! So who knows with C=, besides the Gods on Olympus
of course.

Just FYI, my dealer got in 12 of the '386 bbs in the last couple of days.
He gave me a call yesterday asking if I wanted one.

Your kidding….I called C= today and they said no shippments have been
deliveried.
I've lost 5 orders in the last 2 days. Why has C= decided to ruin my
life???
