#Batch rendering??????
5 messages in this thread
Hi,
Is there a way to batch render a shape to a GIF applying a mat to it???
What I need to do is render 147 shapes one at a time to use as texture
maps for 147 mat's. When all the mat's are done then I can animate this thing.
Waiting for it to render each shape then changing to a new one and render again
is a real pain in the behind!!

Andy,
If, by chance the shapes share the same basic structure, you could morph
between them, and render each one with the same material, if this is what you
are trying to do.
If not, you could batch render as many as it will accept (see pp B-1 thru B-10
in the Reference Manual). Be sure to set up the proper viewport before batch
rendering!<g>

Hi,
I still can't get it to work. It doesn't seem to want to load the
shape from disk to 3deditor and I don't see how to add a mat to it and how to
zoom that veiw. The background and the shadeing doesn't seem to be a problem.

You'll have to save multiple .3ds files with the material already applied, if
this is what you are asking, Andy. Then you can batch-render them.

Andy,
sounds strange! I may be misunderstading you but here's a possible trick. If
you have 147 seperate objects you could take the first one and create 3
keyframes for it: frame 0 out of view of the camera, frame 1 centered in the
camera view, frame 2 out of view of the camera (same as 0 if you like). Then do
object/ copy tracks/ from this firt object to every other (hit the H key and
tag all the other objects). Then go into the track info and slide the 3
keyframes to a unique frame number for each successive object:
frames
off screen on-screen off-screen
object01 0 1 2
object02 1 2 3
.
.
object147 146 147 148
If you are following me correctly each object will appear in view for one frame
and then disappear. You could render this one file and get a sequence of
numbered .gif files. This is the fastest way I can think of other than creating
147 seperate .3ds files and doing a huge batch file with a line for each.
Hope that helps
