#VESA modes – PC
6 messages in this thread
I'm trying to get VESA modes working on Imagine 3.0. Just got it the other day,
and I'm impressed with goodies galore, but I can't seem to get 640x480x256 or
higher on my display. How do you properly set the high color words in the
preferences editor? And do you need to load a TSR to get VESA modes going at
all? If so, I need to track one down for my office's Cirrus Logic 5426 VGA. I
tried
it at home on a Diamond Speedstar Pro just to see how it worked, and once I put
the TSR in memory, Imagine gave me 640×480, 800×600, and 1024×768 all at
8 bit color. Still couldn't get high or true color going, though. Suggestions?
I'm having the same sort of problem. It seems that if you use the "use
truecolor" option in the project editor then your renderings will be DISPLAYED
in 24 bit color, as well as correct screen resolution. However, I can't for
the life of me get any of my movies to be displayed likewise–they're always in
what looks like 320x200x256 colors, even when they fill the whole screen.
I'm using a VESA driver for my card but it doesn't seem to help any–and I
didn't have this problem with version 2.9, so I doubt it's my hardware setup.
Some documentation on the VESA settings in the preferences editor would be
nice! I've been bugging Impulse for help for the last five days or so but
haven't gotten a reply yet. Have any of you Imagine PC users had similar
problems?
Bernie
Bernie,
Your problem is simple, you cant make 24 bit animations. By the way we
have tried to fax you back more than 10 times and have never be able to reach
you or get through,. we have numerous copies of your fax and have not been able
to get to you. Its good that you are here on CIS.
When you make animations with Imagine and the PC you are limited to
what the FLC format will deliver which is 256 colors. In the future we will
implement the FLX format that uses up to 32,000 colors. This might make you a
bit happier.
So to restate, you cant do animations in Imagine in greater than 256
colors with the FLC format. Sorry, until there is another standard we can only
write code that does what fits the most needs.
Mike
Sorry about the fax thing…I kept getting an error message so I kept trying
to re-fax. Anyway…I realize the .FLC format is limited in color output, but
what about the Imagine format? What I really want is a way to test animations
before exporting the rendered frames to another (video editing) program. 256
colors is okay for testing the animation out but I'd prefer 24-bit if it's
available. I know I can't export animations in the Imagine format–but can't
I make truecolor animations with it? I thought 2.9 did, or did I IMAGINE that?
The .FLX thing sounds cool, when ya get 'round to it. In the meantime,
thanks for the response and keep up the good work, 3.0 is an awesome program
(and the manual's not half bad, either)
Thanks!
Bernie
You can use DTA (Dave's Targa animator) to make 8,16 & 24 bit FLCs, it works
very well and has heaps of command line options.
It's available in the GRAPHDEV forum,in the animation section, release 2.1 just
came out.
You also need his DFV FLC player to view the 16 & 24 bit FLCs , it can be found
in the GRAPHSUPPORT forum, in the animation players section.
Hope you will find it as useful as I have.
Yeah, but can you play back a 24 bit anim (at any frame rate that looks
remotely animated, that is)? In the words of Al Borland, I don't think so, Tim.
. . If you can, please post details so that those of us using PAR's, JPEG
boards, and single frame recorders can sell all that expensive junk. Or better
yet, sell your method, you'll be rich in no time!!
