Today I got my 2 MB RAM-BOard back from the upgrade after 12 days. I haven't
tested it yet. It appears to have got a new connector, but is missing the
enclosing connector case (in backorder according to TS).
I am happy, that I didn't have to call them numerous times to get it back. I
hope they have got up to speed on their production now, so that the Amiga
community can be provided with less expensive RAM expansion.
Now I hope it will work together with a HD drive, which is the next item on my
wish list.

Is the connector the double-female wonder? My new connector doesn't have an
enclosing case. I didn't realize there was supposed to be one. Even without a
case, it's much less exposed than the original was.
Jon Fleming reports that his RAM-BOard finally arrived, so Jeric Chard is the
only victim left in this disaster. Unless he told me that he'd received it a
while ago, and I spaced it? >Bela<
Yes, it is the double-female connector, but I think C Ltd. sells a male-male
connector at $19.95, because they have the same pass-through in their RAM
expansion.

Geez, they STILL haven't completed the order yet?? That's incredible.
Incredibly stupid that is, to screw up a chance to get a chance at some good
publicity for thier company. I'm still just simply amazed that they are
jacking around like they are when they know all thier lies, missed delivery
dates, etc, are being reported on nationwide (worldwide, even) nets. Bruce
Webster said they are getting bad press on BIX and I've seen the same on
USENET. They have thier own BBS so it can't be ignorance of telecommunicating.
I don't know, I guess I just can't see anybody being that dumb even having
experienced first hand the evidence.
No, I have not yet tried the memory tests but I have tried it with a big load.
I had WorkBench with several windows/drawers open, CLI, Scribble! (with a 200K
file open), Online!, two Basic programs, and over 500K of files on RAMdisk all
going at once and it handled it with no problems (had about 900K left free).
Have yet to find anything that doesn't run but I haven't really pushed the
envelope either.
Just as a possible point of interest the invoice I got back from TS included
the following information:
Glitch suppression kit for Amiga BAS glitches — $7.50 Address line pull up set
(for type III Amiga or worse) — $6.00
There was, of course, no charge since it still under warranty. Maybe there are
some hardware gurus around here who know what the above means but I sure don't.
The original symptoms were crashing about 10 seconds after Addmem was performed
in 1.1 and refusing to come up at all under 1.2 Enhancer. They also included a
sheet containing info from a memory test they ran and another sheet which looks
like screen dump of a WB window and screen showing 2.5M free. One thing I will
say in TS's favor is that they got it back to me about a week and a half after
I sent it back.

Gordon, I just learned today, that the long ribbon cable connecting the
RAM-BOard and the Amiga is highly likely to cause trouble when connecting other
devices on the expansion port e.g. hard drives. This is partly due to C-A using
a too slow chip, but having specified to the hardware developers to use a
faster chip. It appears, that if the Amiga is upgraded to use the faster chip
it will wotk OK, but that unfortunately requires desoldering and soldering, the
chip itself is less than $20.

Thanks, Joergen, for the tip. When you say trouble, do you mean like the
system crashing or do you mean arcs and sparks hardware damage? This is the
first bit of hardware I've purchased for my Amiga so this is something I'll be
keeping an eye on.

Gordon, I don't exactly know the symptoms, but it must be reading incorrect
data from RAM or Hard Disk drive. I got my information from Ed Lippert of C
Ltd.

I don't know if it really needs to be said but, I am glad of course
that I was not one of the participants in the group purchase. Had I know in
time however, I would most certainly would have been. Anyone following this
topic on CIS that would hold you to blame for the behavior of an entity over
which you have no control has probably NEVER tried to to something to benefit
anyone but themselves. I for one would still be willing to follow your lead on
a group purchase or anything else that was moral and legal. You have done more
than anyone has any right to expect and I commend you for it!
