AAPLAY.DLL under OS/2
6 messages in this thread
Can anyone tell me if there is a problem calling AAPLAY.DLL from a Visual Basic
2.0 Windows application running under OS/2. A customer of mine cannot play the
animations (.FLC files created using Animator Pro) of our title. When he tries
to his video gets scrambled/distorted. The version of AAPLAY.DLL is 5/27/93.
Any suggestions?

"video gets scrambled/distorted."
The player might be having problems with the video card setup. Do you know
which card he has, and how many colors are being made available to the program?

Nik,
My customer has a generic clone PC. He has a Trident Video Card running the
TVGA 640x480x256 color driver. He can run all of our application with no
problems at all except the .FLC animation. The animation was created with
Animator Pro at 640x480x256. Any ideas? — Brian

Don't mean to but in, but I use a Trident 8900… works great for all of
Animator's stuff, but the Trident VESA driver from Trident is what I use, not
the supplied VESA driver. Do you have Trident's BBS number, and have you
downloaded the Trident VESA driver? If you load this driver before going into
AniPro, when you enter ANI you'll see the VESA modes supported in the Extra
Screen Size pull down. It should work beautifully. Also, the Trident card must
have at least 512K of memory on it to support 640x480x256. Hope this helps, and
let me know if you need Tridents BBS. -dave
Hi Dave,
This is really interesting….
I have a VGA moniter, SVGA card with 1 meg ram, and NO VESA drivers in my
autoexec.bat, or config.sys, I wonder why I have no problems running .flc –
640×480 animations.
I have friends that have svga cards and moniters, and have trouble running .flc
640×480 animations, — I just don't understand why —
if you have a svga card, shouldn't it be capable of running a
256 colour 640×480 resolution animation ???, geez this isn't even
1024×768, so what's up ??? – Anyone PLEASE jump in !
thanks Dave! – I'm really not into the inner workings of the svga scene, and
the tech part is not my strong point.

Brian,
It's not clear to me what program is being used to play the animation. As Dave
Aguilar said, if you're trying to use Animator, or ANIPLAY, or AAPLAYHI (the
DOS Autodesk players) you need to go the VESA route.
For Windows playback (up in the subject it mentions DLL) the problem could be
the driver you're using to run Windows. This could be a Trident-supplied
driver. It needs updating – a trip to the Trident BBS.
What specifically goes wrong?
Thanks,
Nik
