Does anyone know if it is possible to get Imagine to use the new HAM8 mode? Jon

It says in the November 1992 AW issue, that Impulse plans a free upgrade for any registered Imagine 2.0 owner with an AA-chip machine. Obviously, 3.0 will support AGA. Vance

Jonathon—>>> That is probably going to be in Imagine 3.0.HAM8 support that is.For now you'll have to render 24 bit then use IM or Adpro to convert in to Ham8 and compile into an anim

Another member just told me here that he saw that there will be a Free upgrade for 2.0 owners to support AGA machines. He said that he saw it in the Nov. AW. I'll have to give them a call perhaps… Jon

In response to the numerous questions about the AGA upgrade: Once Impulse completes work on the PC version of Imagine, it will immediately work to release version 3.0 for the Amiga. This version will include AGA support. Impulse apologizes for misunderstandings created by the blurb in Amiga World. –Rick Rodriguez

Behold, are you truly an Impulse representative that regularly reads this forum? Sorry for the sarcasm but many questions have gone unanswered. Many wonder as to any improvements and bug fixes needed in Imagine 3.0, such as correction of the fog/transparent objects and brushmap backgrounds bug. I am also wondering if anything is happening with the rendering engine itself. Please Comment

Bill, I truly am Impulse's authorized CIS representative. Unfortunately, as I am in Miami and Impulse is in Minneapolis, I often have to read questions like yours and relate them to Mike Halvorson et. al. before I can provide an intelligent answer. There is no "bug" in the use of backgrounds and transparent objects. Sure, transparent objects become opaque in front of backgrounds, but that's because backgrounds were a last minute addition to the software. The new release will deal with this. I am not able to comment on any changes to the rendering engine at this time. Stay tuned. –Rick Rodriguez

" In response to the numerous questions about the AGA upgrade: Once Impulse completes work on the PC version of Imagine," Hello Caligari!

There's plenty of room in the Amiga universe for Imagine, Caligari, Lightwave, Aladdin, etc. etc. What I love about this platform and miss terribly when I use the PC is how I can jump around and use the various strengths of each of the aforementioned products. I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to using Real 3d 2.0! But don't give up on Impulse and Imagine just yet! –Rick Rodriguez

" There's plenty of room in the Amiga universe for Imagine, Caligari,.." I think that's a myth. A company may be going into the PC market because they are feeling "the squeeze" in the Amiga market. Besides having fewer users, the Amiga market is more competitive when it comes to graphics. By moving to the PC market, they can expand their income, and not have to really worry about improving their product. -Chris

Chris, think what you will, but the cardinal rule of business is constant product development. The short term benefits of shipping a product for another platform are far outweighed by the damage of relying on an obsolete or inferior one. Yes, there is tremendous competition on the Amiga. But on the PC, you have 3D Studio, Topas and several other heavyweights. Impulse's goal is to bring those guys down to earth and make some money as well. That will allow the company to continue to develop the best, most COST-EFFECTIVE software it can. We all benefit. –Rick Rodriguez

I Don't recommend Caligari over Imagine Chris. You'll be VERY unhappy I believe.

Peter, I was thinking of getting the new Caligari24. With is's support of the A4000 I thought it would be the way to go. I'd like to hear what you have to say comparing Imagine to Caligari24. I also have my eye on Alidin4D and Playmation. Any information/opinions you can share would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Steven Walters –70524,634

Well in all Honesty I DON'T have Caligari24 but if it's ANYTHING like my Caligari Broadcast Run don't Walk away from it.Alladin 4D is getting Great Reviews except for it's modeler but if you get the Shareware prg Vertex that will solve the Modeler Deficiency problem. If you are in Brooklyn Area I'd be happy to demo a few of the packages for you.

Peter, Doesn't Vertex refuse to run on an accelerator? Or do I have that wrong? Karl
#49740From: Vance SchowalterJan 11, 1993 1:46 PM
I've used Vertex on my A3000T with no functional problems at all. Vance
#49852From: Peter GreciJan 13, 1993 6:58 PM
You must have that wrong dude Cuz Vertex Works fine in all my machines including an A3000 and a Souped up A500 with a ICD Adspeed Acclerator in it.

Steve, I have both Imagine and Aladdin4D. All things considered, I prefer Imagine. When I first started using it, I kicked, screamed and nearly went through roof. Slowly, I was able to get the hang of it. Either of these packages would be good. Caligari never did much for me. I liked the feel of Real3D but overall it wasn't as complete as Imagine. I'm keeping my eyes out for the next version though, if it's all it's cracked up to be, it's gonna be a real winner. -Richard

Peter, Would you care to name some alternatives? I am open to suggestions at this point. I know there has been alot of talk about Aladin lately. -Chris

Sorry Chris,I forgot the thread of the Convo.Would I care to suggest an alternative to WHAT?If you mean aan Alternative to Imagine,Alladin sounds like a good way to go.REAL 3D's Demo left me unimpressed and Caligari which I have I HATE.
