Jay: The SyQuest-270 is a 3.5" drive. The 270 meg carts are about the same
size as a floppy, only thicker.

Thanks for the info on the 270 MB drives.
I believe that I read somewhere that SyQuest has announced a ~200 MB 5.25
unit that will read and write the old 5.2." 44 and 88 MB carts.

Yep, I've heard about SyQuest's 5.25 200meg drive, but I haven't done much
research on it. Probably a little slower than the 270, but still if you
have a bunch of 88MB carts around, then it might be better to go that
route. I wanted to get to a 3.5" drive because usually the carts are
cheaper, and it's faster.
