#IM R/t 1.50?
7 messages in this thread
Ben,
I've been playing around with Imagemaster R/t v1.50 and have run into a few
porblems. I'm hoping you can help.
First, my configuration: A3000/25, 10 Mb RAM, 220 Mb drives, Retina, Epson
ES-300c scanner w/ASDG cable.
Now my problems:
1) I still can't get IM to scale an image. Here is *exactly* what I do.
a) First I load a picture. All images load fine. No problems there.
My example image is 280 x 197 x 24 bit. It is the only image
loaded and is being properly displayed hires 16-color as well as
a 24-bit image on my Retina via the 2nd Monitor display script.
b) I select the "entire image" button in the area panel.
c) I go into File I/O and set the save type to 24-bit IFF/ILBM.
d) I click the "Set Save Size" button and set the image size at
241 View Width, 240 View Height using the slider gadgets. I click
the "Scale to New Size" button (so it is active).
e) I click "done" and "Save Image File".
The resulting image is the *exact* same byte count as the original
and if I load it, it is the exact same size. When I load it, the
"size" slider gadgets are set where I put them. It just didn't scale
the image down.
I have had equal defeat when using "resample to new size" as well as
saving in formats other than IFF-24.
Please note that if I "Clip .5x" and save, it is 1/2 the size of the
original. That works fine.
2) MetaScan ES-300c is refusing to work for me.
a) MetaScan *requires* the Ruby 15 font and just dumps if it can't
find it. I deleted it long ago. I've got it back now but it
would be nice to include with IM R/t's installation or let MetaScan
use Topaz from ROM.
b) Pressing the F4 key and selecting the Epson 300c capture module
does absolutely nothing.
c) If I launch MetaScanIM from a shell it will work fine in PREVIEW
mode but won't SCAN.
d) The MetaScanIM.rexx ARexx file dumps out on line 89
call openport('MetaScanRexxing');
I do have IM R/t running and MetaScanIM as well. The METASCAN
and IM ARexx ports are listed as available.
I don't have an ARexx manual at home so I couldn't play much with it.
The error it gives me is 'Host Environment Not Found'. It can't open
the port. I do have the rexxsupport.library in place.
Just so you know I'm not all complaints…..congratulations on the FLIC reader.
I had a client (county gov't) who was trying to convert FLC files to ANIMs.
Main Actor (shareware) and ADPro 2.5 both choked on some of their files (chunk
too large errors). IM R/t handled *all* of the FLCs with ease. All were
converted to ANIM7 smoothly.
The Sharpen III function in Filters is fantastic! It has given me images that
look better that the original!
Thanks for a wonderful program. Our store can't keep them in stock!

Aha…. now we're to the heart of it. The 24-bit and TRIM savers save the
image in the buffer _as is_. They're NOT "renderers" and so do not
rescale. Only renderers (things that reduce the number of colors) rescale
on save, since they have to completely rebuild the image anyway.
IM R/t's _many_ scaling operations are in the Process panel, under
clipping. That's what you missed. Once you've scaled it, _then_ you save
the image using IFF24. Here's what to do, exactly:
1 – Load the image
2 – Select the "Entire Image" tool
3 – Select "Process/Clipping/Stretch Clip"
4 – Select the desired output size
5 – Select DONE
6 – Select "Replace Primary"
7 – Select DONE & DONE again to get back to the main panel
8 – Select "File I/o"
9 – Select "Save Image File" (assuming you already have IFF24 save type)
My guess on the Metascan thing is that your system doesn't have a valid
path to the RX command (which is probably in a dir called RXCOMM in your
WB partition). This is the typical result in that case.

Aha! Thanks. I'll try scaling now.
BTW, IM has the best #&$# 16-color hires dither I've ever seen. I can't
believer I'm only looking at 16 colors on some of the images. Since I have an
A3000, I must be. 🙂

Gald you like the low color rendering. We worked real hard to make it work
well.

Plenty; if you go back in the messages here, you should be able to easily
locate one that describes the new goodies. If not, let me know and I'll
find it and repost it for you.
