I have got a problem concerning my SCSII-Harddisk. I hope, I can get some help
from anyone. For some reason, I have got a read/write error on my harddisk.
Everything works, but I cant write anything on the partition, because it is not
veryfied. Is there any possibility just to verify the drive??? I do not want to
use the diskdoctor, because it often seems to change the disks a lot. I use
KS/WB 2.04.
Any help??? Thanks in advance!

If you have a disk sector editor, and know what you're doing…you can
force the disk to become validated. But that's not generally a good idea
unless you know for sure that nothing is wrong. Normally, on bootup, the
Amiga…seeing a disk isn't validated…will try to validate it. On a large
HD, with a lot of files that can take awhile.
But if after the Amiga attempts to validate…it can't, then there is
*something* wrong. The best thing to do is backup the disk, reformat it and
restore the files.
Yes, that's a real pain in the backside…especially with a large HD
and only floppies to use to back it up.
If you choose that option…make SURE that you have whatever disks and
programs are necessary to restore the HD after a format! I've known folks who
backed up to a tape, reformatted the disk and then discovered that the software
needed to read the tape and restore the drive is not in the floppy based
software collection!

I hate it when that happens. What killed me was that idiot Ami-back said I
was using a non-registered version of the program. It would not let me
personalize the disk and therefore no restore.
I flushed the damn thing down the toilet then bought QuarterBack. Then I
had to unclog the stupid toilet and REALLY ended up with a piece of sh*t
disk……

You might try DiskSalv on it. It's in the libraries here – DKSAL2.LHA.
Written by Dave Haynie. It's the best I know of. It can verify, fix in
place, or salvage to another disk.

To recommend my own solution to this problem, I keep a bootable floppy disk
with Disksalv2 and BackUP (which I just downloaded from this library) handy.
If you do the same ensure that your floppy copies actually work, i.e., ensure
that you have the necessary libraries on the floppy and test the software.
Disksalv has a utility that actually preps a bootable floppy for you. BackUP
requires a font and at least one additional library to be added to the floppy,
but it's explained in the excellent guide documentation. The installer utility
and Amigaguide should also be on your hard drive, assuming that they are not
trashed already.
