hello
In the new book 'Inside 3d studio' on page 992 there is reference
to a program GIFDXF. Where would it be located.
Thanks for any help
Daniel Pasholk
Hi Daniel,
Since you have "Inside 3DS" the easiest place to get GIFDXF is from the
CD-ROM that comes with the book. Otherwise, the last time I looked it was
also available for download from this forum. I'm not sure of which library.
Steven
Thanks Mr. Elliott
Will there be any further 3ds workshops at Moraine valley ? bye for now.
Daniel Pasholk
Hi Daniel,
Yes, Moraine Valley is a Premier Autodesk Training Center (ATC) and schedules
regular 3D Studio courses. We have a 3D Studio Level I course scheduled for
June 6-9 and a Level II course scheduled for July 6-8. I'll be teaching both
courses.
I can't speak for the schedule beyond that. I'm currently in the midst of a
career re-evaluation and I don't know what part teaching will have in my
future plans. However, Moraine Valley is committed to offering 3D Studio
classes and I'm making every effort to maintain my relationship with them.
It's a good bet that there will be more classes this Fall.

PMJI, Hi Steven!
>> I'm currently in the midst of a
career re-evaluation and I don't know what part teaching will have in my
future plans.<<
I hope your not planning on leaving the 3DS Community, that would be a very
great loss. I suspect your thinking leaving the Academic side correct?
Murph'
Hi Murph,
No, there's no way I could leave the 3DS community. 3DS is like herpes, once
it's in your blood it's there forever. Thanks for the compliment tho'.
I don't think that I could even completely leave the academic side either. I
like it too much. Right now I'm trying to find the right mix of writing,
teaching, consulting, and production, either as an independent or <gasp> a
traditional wage slave.
Either way, I'm sticking around here.
Steven
Hey Hey! >> 3DS is like Herpes. << Couldn't you think of a better analogy than
that? <g> Come on Steven, you're a writer. I know from you work there are many
better analogies! <BG>

Yeah, I'm ashamed.
Sometimes my warped sense of humor gets the best of me <G>. You should read
some of the stuff that I don't post or print.
Hey! That would make a good book, "The Making of Inside 3D Studio" behind the
scenes dirt and what the editors refused to print!
Steven

You too?! <g> I really try to moderate it but things slip by. I know creativity
is not a pretty sight. <G> Not in animation, not in music not in print. But
you'd never know it from the finished polished product.

Yes, that would be a good one! Did you know that the chapter I did on single
frame output (#21) had to have all of the screen grabs redone? I committed the
mortal sin of having a beautifully detailed pistol mesh in the background, and
one of the editors decided that it was too violent an image! I replaced all
the screens with a film can for pages 940 – 946 to make him happy, then was
told by another editor that I should have just ignored the comments! Now he
tells me!
Greg Pyros
Greg,
OK, I swap one horror story and run before the thread police jump on us for
getting off subject.
Phil and I were up to Chapter 6 when the word came down that we would have to
redo nearly all of the figures for those chapters. Seems the production
people could not figure out what to do with a figure that was not exactly
800×600 rez. We asked what the problem was and they said that their staff
couldn't maintain the proper aspect ration when the images were scaled in
Pagemaker. I said simple, "just hold down the shift key while dragging the
corner handle." No Go.
Soooo… We ended up pasting all of the figures onto a blank 800×600, white
background and then manually drawing in crop marks! Jeeze. Don't you just
love high technology <G>!
Steven
Glad to hear that Steven….
BTW could you repost your message regarding you upcoming 3DS Classes?
I've got a client that may want to go to them as he's looking for several
sources of instruction.
Got any special classes for Dealers?
One can never be proficient enough when it comes to 3D Studio!!
Murph'
Sure Murph'
Moraine Valley has a 3DS Level I course scheduled for June 6-9. This is a 32
hour, hands-on class with a max enrollement of 12 students. We also have
arrangements with some of the local hotels for discounted rooms and daily
shuttles to and from the school.
The 3DS Level II class is 24 hours long and is scheduled for July 6-8.
Registration and lodging info can be obtained through Don McIntyre by calling
708-974-5409.
I was also scheduled to provide authorized dealer training for Autodesk at
Moraine Valley but we had trouble getting enough registrations to justify the
class. We ran only one R2 dealer update a loooong time ago. I don't know if
the training department is still interested in continuing the arrangement.
Finally, one of the things that I'm planning to add to my business mix is
partnering with Autodesk dealers for specialized support and training
services. If you think we could work something out on an individual basis,
send some EMAIL. I'd be happy to discuss it with you.
