Greetings, all.
I have recently purchased a SupraFAXModem 144LC and GPFax, and am
attempting to enter the world of fax from my Amiga.
I have downloaded and successfully installed the patches available for
GPFax, and am now running the Generic Class II version 2.432.
I have one small problem. The 144LC is Class 1 software compatable. Not
Class II.
In the docs with one of the patches, it's mentioned that a Class 1 version
of GPFax is available, and to contact the author(s), Dr. Greg Perry
<gregp@gpsoft.adsp.sub.org> and Richard Carde <rc@splat.aarnet.edu.au>.
I have tried sending e-mail to both gentlemen, only to learn that 'sub.org
is not accepting mail', and that rc@splat etc. is an unknown user.!?.!?
Has anyone successfully contacted the author(s), and would you please be
kind enough to share an address with me?

They also have phone/fax numbers.
Commodore hasn't been paying the bill on it's ADSP/Internet gateway, so
many non-US developers have the problem of email to them bouncing.

What does an Internet feed cost these das, per-month? CBM had a real ftp-able
link?
And a related question… how does one go about registering an Internet name /
address? An 'nslookup' actually reveals there to be a known site called
'syndesis', but I guess I'd be 'syndesis.com', right?
Varies a lot depending on where you are and what kind of service you want.
Here, you can get a shell acount for about $10/mo., UUCP feed for about
$50/mo., "unlimited" dialup, single-node SLIP for $99 month, "unlimited"
dialup gateway SLIP for $300/mo., leased line 56kbps for under $1k. Of
course, there are more options than that.
To register an Internet domain, you have to fill out an application and
send it off to the NIC. Any addresses fall under your domain. So I
registered iam.com, but not hobbes.iam.com, calvin.iam.com,
snoopy.iam.com, etc. If you are getting a dialup or UUCP feed, you have
to have an MX forwarder who collects all mail send to your domain and
gives it to you when you call for it. If you are getting a 24hr. reliable
connection, you have to set up a domain name server. You'll also have to
apply for a block of IP numbers.
Of course, IAM does consulting in networking (besides our own domain, we
set up scala.com)… 🙂

Oh, reading your question in context, I see that you were asking about
Commodore not paying its bill.
Commodore has X.25 (I think that's the right number) links between several
countries for IS stuff. West Chester has a 56kbps leased-line Internet
connection. ADSP, the non-North-America devloper's support network is UUCP
based. The domain .sub.org (or something like that) was used to provide
MX forwarding to individual developer sites. The bill for that MX
forwarding is what hasn't been paid. The way I understand it, the person
who used to make sure that it was paid isn't there any more. There isn't
actually a paper bill (its a non-profit organization or something and is
set up so that you give them money to credit your account — no credit, no
service). C= hasn't figured out how to deal with it since there is no
paper bill.

Rob,
GPFax has a customised version especially for Supra. If it was bundled
with the modem that is what you should have received, not the Generic one.

GPFax is no longer sold in different specialized versions. One disk now
uses installer and can query you and your modem to set up for any number
of modems.
