Just how big is the "magic" within an A600 case? With a PCMCIA, and an
IDE controller built in… shouldn't take too much. However, with most
laptops being quite proprietary in design, finding just the "right" case
would be a bear!
At least it would be smaller than an SX-64! <g>

One problem with the 600 was that the chips draw too much power to have
any decent sort of run on battery power.

I guess it depends on the size of the battery. 🙂 You could run an A4000 from
an uninterruptable power supply in your backpack, if you really wanted to carry
around 30 pounds of batteries.
True, John. I prefer the 4-pound computer, battery and all. How about
those new Lithium-Ion batteries!

I've yet to satisfy my lust for a laptop. But recently I picked up several
UPSes and they've made me think about situations where you might want full 120
VAC portable power… like walking down the street running a hair dryer. I'm
not sure if that's the most pressing need I have, but… 🙂
Now I can just picture THAT!
Actually, it is possible to have a portable that still requires AC power.
Some of the most expensive (and capable) Toshibas require it. I think
most of us would have been pleased to get even that – an integrated
computer and screen, of reasonable size and weight, even if it required a
regular cord and outlet. Or maybe with an auto adapter for running in the
car. Batteries are nice at times, but not always necessary.
