#3ds for Win??????

What type of support does/ will 3dStudio have for Windows? How about
WinNt,Os/2, etc.?
Sorry, Autodesk has a firm policy of not discussing future releases. We'll be
glad to talk about the current 3D Studio, however.

Alright, about the current release of 3D Studio. Can 3D Studio, Release 3:
-be run in a full screen dos session under Windows 3.1? -be run in a full
screen dos session under Windows NT 3.1? I heard from somewhere that 3DS can't
run under WinNT because WinNT's memory manager doesn't support realbreaks, a
requirement that the PharLap extender uses. When I tried running Acad Rel.12 in
a dos box and it, too, said that the PharLap extender couldn't use realbreaks.
I then installed the pharlap.386 file, as stated in the documentation, and Acad
worked. Can't you write up the equivalent of a "pharlap.386" for WinNT?
-be run in a full screen dos session under OS/2 2.1? -if it can run under WinNt
and not OS/2 or vice versa, why not? -do spline modelling using NURBS? What are
the REALISTIC system requirements to run 3D Studio? From a beginner's
perspective, how hard is it to use 3DS? Can you suggest any good 3DS primers?
You're right about NT – it won't work because of Pharlap. Yes, you can run a
full screen session under win3.1, but I don't know why you would want to.
It'll cause a performance hit on all but the beefiest systems.
I know there are several folks out there using 3DS under OS/2, but I don't know
how they did it. I'm sure somebody'll be happy to tell you how, though.
Realistic requirements:
486/66 or P5
16megs ram for multimedia, 32 minimum for video
1gig disk space, minimum
17" monitor, unless you want to hurt your eyes
graphics card able to do 24bit color at 800×600 min.
for video there are a ton of options, let me know if you have any specific
questions.

Anthony,
Yes, 3DS can be run in a DOS session under Windows 3.1. Although we don't
recommend it for a production environment. Windows memory management takes a
lot away from the 3DS environment.
3DS will not run under Windows NT. Pharlap.386 is something that phalap wrote.
3DS will run in a DOS session under OS/2, and, depending on your video card,
will be able to multitask. Many video cards have demonstrated problems
switching between two or more DOS sessions that are employing graphics.
Time and again people have commented that the tuturials that ship with the
software are the best introduction and trainng materials around.
